The Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, has voiced strong optimism regarding the party’s prospects in the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
His confidence follows the release of early poll results from Global Info Analytics, which indicate that the NDC’s candidate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, has garnered notable support.
According to Dr. Kevor, Baidoo has made impressive strides, polling 43.8% of voter support within just 12 hours of his official endorsement. Speaking to ABC News GH, he emphasized that the internal selection process for Baidoo was conducted smoothly, without any disputes. He described it as “very free, fair, and calm,” underscoring the unity within the party’s leadership, which is now firmly rallying behind their candidate.
“We will make sure we all rally behind him on September 2nd,” Dr. Kevor stated, reinforcing the NDC’s commitment to standing united as they approach this pivotal by-election.
The early poll results show a slight lead for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Solomon Kwame Asumadu, who stands at 49.7%, while Bernard Bediako Baidoo follows closely with 43.8%. Additionally, 6.5% of respondents indicated support for a third-party candidate.
Conducted across 21 electoral areas with a sample size of 2,087 through random online sampling, analysts suggest that sentiments related to the recent passing of the former MP may not significantly influence the election’s outcome. Nevertheless, Dr. Kevor remains unfazed by these observations, expressing confidence in his party’s message.
“We are satisfied with the analytics. We are very confident that once we send our message, they will buy it and vote for us,” he affirmed. As the NDC gears up for the September 2 by-election, Dr. Kevor’s optimism reflects a broader determination within the party to secure victory in Akwatia.
