Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Foreign Affairs Minister-designate, has vehemently rejected claims by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin that he was “smuggled” into the Appointments Committee’s vetting session on Thursday, January 30. Apexnewsgh reports
Ablakwa asserted that he had been properly invited and did not sneak into the session.
Afenyo-Markin had earlier alleged that Ablakwa was not on the list of nominees agreed upon by the Committee for vetting on January 30. However, Ablakwa dismissed these claims, stating, “I am not some hooligan who will be smuggled into the Appointments Committee’s meeting to be vetted”.
The Foreign Affairs Minister-designate expressed his displeasure with Afenyo-Markin’s accusations, which he described as unfounded and damaging to his reputation. Ablakwa emphasized that even the eminent chiefs and respected ambassadors who accompanied him to the vetting session were concerned about the claims and questioned whether he was truly invited.
Ablakwa demanded an unqualified apology from Afenyo-Markin, declaring, “We demand an unqualified apology for his acts”. This development comes amid tensions between the Minority and Majority caucuses in Parliament, with the Minority threatening not to approve Ablakwa’s nomination, among others.
