Speaking at an event hosted by the IBB Presidential Foundation in Abuja, Nigeria, Akufo-Addo emphasized the need for bold leadership and concrete action to propel Africa into a key player on the global stage.
Akufo-Addo highlighted Nigeria’s strategic position, citing its vast resources and regional influence as crucial factors in shaping Africa’s economic future. He stressed that Nigeria must play a leading role in breaking free from dependency on foreign aid and prioritizing self-sufficiency.
The former ECOWAS Chair also emphasized the importance of resolving tensions between governance, economic development, and social stability.
He reaffirmed his commitment to democracy, praising Ghana’s track record of peaceful democratic transitions and acknowledging former Nigerian military leader General Ibrahim Babangida’s embrace of democratic governance.
Akufo-Addo concluded by calling for deeper collaboration between Ghana and Nigeria, positioning their partnership as a cornerstone of Africa’s pursuit of economic independence and sustainable development. He expressed confidence in Africa’s democratic evolution, urging nations to strengthen their institutions while championing economic self-reliance.
