A dramatic turn of events unfolded in Ghana’s Parliament on Friday, January 31, 2025, as Speaker Bagbin announced the suspension of four Members of Parliament for their roles in the chaos that erupted during the Appointments Committee sitting on January 30. Apexnewsgh reports

The suspended MPs, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor (South Dayi), Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Nsawam-Adoagyiri), Alhassan Tampuli (Gushegu), and Jerry Ahmed Shaib (Weija-Gbawe), will be barred from parliamentary sittings for two weeks.

The chaos began during the vetting of Health minister-designate, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and Foreign Affairs minister-designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, as members of the Minority and Majority caucuses clashed. The altercation resulted in the destruction of equipment, including furniture and microphones.

Speaker Bagbin condemned the incident, describing it as “disgraceful and deeply regrettable.” He emphasized that parliamentary privilege does not extend to disorderly conduct, sending a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated.

The suspension of the four MPs serves as a stern reminder of the importance of maintaining decorum and respect in the parliamentary chambers.
