The Ghana Police Service has taken a driver into custody after a Hyundai truck with registration number GS 9018 – 20 was allegedly involved in an accident with a Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line on Thursday, April 18. Apexnewsgh reports
Preliminary investigations conducted by the police have indicated that the driver of the truck reportedly left the vehicle unattended on the railway tracks, resulting in a collision with the oncoming train.
According to an initial statement released by the Railways Ministry, the incident occurred at 12:10 pm on Thursday at Km 76+100 along the railway line. The ministry highlighted that the DMU train was unable to avoid the stationary vehicle despite emergency braking procedures, leading to a collision at a curve on the track.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among passengers on the train or bystanders at the site of the accident. However, the collision caused minor damage to the driver’s cab section of the train.
The driver of the Hyundai truck, whose actions are believed to have contributed to the accident, has been apprehended by the Ghana Police Service as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision continue.
