A married woman who faked a pregnancy has been arrested for stealing a week-old baby from Zebilla District Hospital in the Bawku West district of the Upper East Region. Apexnewsgh reports
The suspect was apprehended following a tip-off from a local chief, which led to her timely arrest and saved her from being lynched by an angry mob.
According to Dr. Ayobi Abdul Rahman, the baby has been rescued and reunited with its distraught mother and is safe and sound. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed by police, had reportedly faced societal pressure after a year of marriage without a child and had deceived her family by faking a pregnancy.
The woman allegedly stole the baby from the hospital, intending to present it as her own newly born child. However, her plan was foiled when the local chief alerted the police, leading to her arrest.
The woman is currently in police custody in Bawku, assisting with investigations.
