A senior lecturer at Ho Technical University, Dr. Richard Akplotsyi, has issued a stern warning to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), urging them to treat the ongoing water crisis in the Volta Region as a national security threat. Apexnewsgh reports

The crisis, which has plagued Ho, the regional capital, and surrounding communities, has left residents struggling to access clean water.

Speaking to Class News, Dr. Akplotsyi lambasted the GWCL management for their complacency, which he believes has exacerbated the situation. “The management has been too relaxed, leading to this unforeseen crisis,” he emphasized. The Kpeve Headworks water pump shaft has broken down four times in just one month, with the latest incident persisting for over a week.

The repeated breakdowns have forced residents to resort to unhygienic water sources, posing serious health risks. Dr. Akplotsyi stressed that the situation is avoidable and urged GWCL’s management to take immediate and concrete steps to address the issue. He called for urgent action to fix the problem and ensure a sustainable water supply for the affected communities.

As the water crisis continues to bite, Dr. Akplotsyi’s warning serves as a wake-up call for GWCL and the government to prioritize the water needs of the Volta Region and take decisive action to prevent further suffering.
