Hopeson Adorye, Head of Operations for the Movement for Change, has publicly declared his support for a petition seeking the removal of Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa and her two deputies. Apexnewsgh reports
The petition, filed by Ofosu-Appiah Daniel on Monday, January 27, 2025, accuses the EC leadership of constitutional violations, incompetence, bias, and actions that have undermined public confidence in the electoral process.
Speaking on Accra-based CTV’s OMAN GHANA NKOSUO morning show, Adorye endorsed the petition, which also calls for the removal of Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Affairs; Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations; and Dr. Peter Appiahene, a member of the Commission’s board.
Adorye asserted that the allegations against the EC leadership are valid, citing Jean Mensa’s handling of the 2024 elections as an example of her unprofessionalism.
He claimed that her actions could have led to instability if former Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia had not conceded early defeat.
Adorye also pointed to the incident at Ablekuma North as evidence of the EC Chairperson’s alleged affiliation with the NPP. He urged President Mahama to appoint a neutral, non-partisan individual to lead the EC, emphasizing that an independent Chairperson is essential for free and fair elections in Ghana.
