President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Nii Moi Thompson as the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), pending consultations with the Council of State. Apexnewsgh reports
Dr. Thompson, a renowned development economist, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He previously served as the Director-General of the Commission, where he spearheaded the preparation of Ghana’s 40-Year Development Plan.
His expertise extends to the international stage, where he led Ghana’s technical delegations to the United Nations between 2014 and 2015. During this tenure, he played a pivotal role in shaping the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and integrating them into Ghana’s national development framework.
As Chairman, Dr. Thompson will collaborate closely with key government officials, including the Minister for Finance, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and the Government Statistician. He will also engage with presidential appointees and representatives from Ghana’s 16 regions to provide strategic policy advice to the President and Parliament on national development initiatives.
This appointment marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s development journey, and Dr. Thompson’s expertise is expected to drive progress and growth. Interestingly, Dr. Thompson had previously served as the Acting Director-General of the NDPC, as announced by the Presidency.
