Muntaka Mubarak, the Minister-designate for Interior, has sparked a conversation about state land ownership, revealing that he legally acquired government land in Accra. Apexnewsgh reports
During his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 24, Muntaka emphasized that there’s nothing wrong with acquiring state lands legitimately.
He cited examples of state lands in Accra, such as East Legon and Airport Residential, which have been acquired by private individuals, including former government officials. Muntaka argued that as long as the acquisition is done legitimately and rightfully, it shouldn’t be a problem.
In addition to his comments on state land ownership, Muntaka also touched on the need for reforms in Ghana’s security services. He expressed concerns about the current promotion system, which he believes prioritizes time served over merit. Muntaka advocated for a more transparent and merit-based system, similar to those used in the private sector.
He proposed introducing clear performance reviews, documented criteria, and opportunities for faster advancement based on outstanding performance. Muntaka also underscored the importance of educating security personnel about the promotion process and learning from other jurisdictions to improve Ghana’s security agencies.
Muntaka’s comments signal a potential shift in how promotions within Ghana’s security services could be handled. He called on all Ghanaians to support him in delivering these reforms if he’s approved as Minister of the Interior.
