The Office of the President has rejected a request by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) to disclose the comprehensive KPMG report on the revenue assurance contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML). Apexnewsgh reports
The request was made in April under the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), but the Presidency has cited exemptions under the Act to justify its decision.
In a statement on Wednesday, May 8, the Presidency stated, “Upon careful consideration and in accordance with section 5 (1) (a) and (b) (i) of the RTI Act, I regret to inform you that your request has been refused.” The statement referenced section 5 (1) (a) and (b) (i) of the RTI Act, which exempts information prepared for or submitted to the President or Vice-President, including opinions, advice, deliberations, recommendations, minutes, or consultations, from disclosure.
According to the Presidency, disclosing such information would compromise the integrity of the deliberative process by revealing the thought process, considerations, and influence on decision-making reserved for the highest offices of the land. This decision effectively denies the MFWA’s request for transparency and access to the full KPMG report.
