President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dissolved the board of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) led by Dr Anthony Oteng-Gyasi, in a move aimed at reconstituting the agency responsible for revenue mobilization in the country. Apexnewsgh reports
Along with the board, Commissioner General Rev Dr Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah has also been removed from his position.
In acting capacity, Miss Julie Essiam, formerly in charge of the Support Services Division, will now serve as the Commissioner General.
Another change sees Miss Pearl Darko from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) taking over the role of Commissioner for Support Services Division. These decisions have been made as part of an effort to revamp the GRA and improve revenue collection processes, according to sources at the Presidency.
The GRA was formed in 2009 by merging three revenue agencies – CEPS, IRS, and VATS – under the Ghana Revenue Authority Act 2009. Its main goal is to ensure compliance with tax laws, facilitate trade, and monitor the movement of goods across borders.
The agency also oversees international agreements related to taxation and collaborates with organizations such as the World Customs Organization and the World Trade Organization.
As the GRA undergoes restructuring, changes are expected in key leadership positions, including the Commissioners of the Customs Division and the Domestic Tax and Revenue Division. The aim of these changes is to strengthen revenue collection efforts and ensure efficient tax administration in Ghana.
