In a strategic move, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Anthony Kwasi Sarpong as the Acting Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), effective January 21, 2025. Apexnewsgh reports
This appointment comes on the heels of Julie Essiam’s resignation from the position.
Sarpong, a seasoned expert with 22 years of experience in audit, accounting advisory, corporate recovery, and insolvency, is expected to lead the GRA during this transitional period. His primary objective will be to ensure the continued effective functioning of the Authority.
As the Senior Partner of KPMG Ghana, Sarpong has provided strategic direction and managed operations to achieve key corporate objectives. His experience spans consumer markets and financial service lines of business, having worked in Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa.
Sarpong’s appointment will be in effect until the governing board of the GRA, in consultation with the Public Services Commission, provides its constitutionally required advice.
The Office of the President has expressed confidence in Sarpong’s ability to enhance the GRA’s revenue mobilization efforts and enforce tax compliance.
With his impressive credentials, including memberships in the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAG), the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), and the Ghana Association of Restructuring and Insolvency Advisors (GARIA), Sarpong is well-equipped to drive the GRA’s success.
