The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has disclosed a concerning uptick in road accidents during the first two months of 2024. David Osafo Adonteng, the Director-General of the NRSA, shared these statistics during the launch of the 2024 Road Safety Easter Campaign.
As of February, there have been 2,260 road crashes involving 3,910 vehicles, resulting in 369 fatalities, 2,552 injuries, and 381 pedestrian knockdowns. In comparison to the same period last year, where there were 2,249 crashes involving 3,857 vehicles, this marks a slight increase in road incidents.
David Osafo Adonteng highlighted that the figures represented a 0.49% increase in crashes, a 1.37% increase in vehicles involved, and a 2.0% increase in persons injured. Notably, fatalities have also seen a significant 11.82% increase compared to the first two months of 2023.
To address these alarming trends, the launch of the 2024 Road Safety Easter Campaign aims to implement measures to control the rising numbers and reduce accidents during the upcoming Easter holidays.
With a focus on enhancing road safety awareness and enforcement, the NRSA is committed to safeguarding lives on the road and promoting responsible driving practices.
