Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has taken swift action to address the chaos that erupted during the Appointments Committee sitting on January 30, 2025. Apexnewsgh reports
Bagbin has established a seven-member committee, chaired by Ho West MP Emmanuel Bedzrah, to investigate the incident and determine the culpability of those involved.
The committee’s members include Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, Gizella Akushika Tetteh-Agbotui, Abena Osei Asare, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, and Bede Anwataazuma Ziedeng. Bagbin emphasized that any member found culpable will face disciplinary actions and bear the full cost of repairs, with deductions from their salaries if necessary.
In addition to the committee’s investigation, Bagbin announced the suspension of four Members of Parliament – Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Alhassan Tampuli, and Jerry Ahmed Shaib – from parliamentary sittings for two weeks.
Bagbin condemned the incident, describing it as “disgraceful and deeply regrettable.” He emphasized that the chaos undermines the integrity of Parliament and that parliamentary privilege does not extend to lawlessness. The Speaker expressed concern over the timing and setting of the chaos, stating that it is “deeply troubling” that such an incident occurred within the precincts of Parliament.
The chaos erupted during the vetting of two ministerial nominees, with Minority and Majority members clashing over the timing of the vetting process. The incident resulted in the destruction of some equipment, prompting Bagbin’s swift response to restore order and accountability in Parliament.
