Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has announced that efforts are underway to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Speaking on the “South East Political Roundtable” radio program, Kalu advised South-East youths to stop following the sit-at-home directives of IPOB, as it is having a negative impact on the region’s economy.
Kalu also highlighted the positive impact of the recently launched Peace in South-East Project in Abia State. He called on youths carrying arms to lay down their weapons and embrace non-violent approaches in resolving the region’s security challenges and other concerns.
While acknowledging Kanu as his brother and expressing his desire for his release, Kalu emphasized the importance of peaceful and diplomatic methods in addressing issues. He urged the people to support the government and refrain from violence, as it is not a productive means of achieving their goals.
Kalu concluded by calling for an end to the Monday sit-at-home protests organized by IPOB. He emphasized that the strength of the Igbo people lies not in intimidation or inactivity but in their industrious nature and determination to work and contribute to society.
