Bolgatanga Technical University celebrates SASA week, showcases TVET-related creativity
The Dean for School of Applied Sciences and Industrial Arts at the Bolgatanga Technical University Dr. Rolland Wemgah has said, the exhibition exercise showcased by students as part of their SASA week celebration was to create that public awareness about what the students have been doing for the past year. The Institution launched the first-ever, Bolgatanga Technical University School of Applied Science and Art- SASA celebration on Wednesday, June 26, 2023, with the theme: Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship: The Role of TVET. Meanwhile, according to the Dean Dr. Wemgah, the aim is simple, is to showcase to the world what students of BTU have been doing over the years, especially the practical related works. “We just want to bring it down to interact with the public”. He said As you can see, students from the second-scale institutions are here, they came to interact with us to learn what we do. They can come to our school if they want to pursue their technical education. “We have an art exhibition coming from the Industrial Art, and equally, you can see the Medical Laboratory technicians were also doing some free health screening for the public and all those coming for the exhibition, the catering Institutional management is showcasing a lot of meals currently at Bazar. On Friday evening, the celebration saw the Industrial Art Department showcasing more fashion products to officials of the Ghana Tourism Board, personalities in craft development, and some other organizations who were present. “We have been impacting a lot of students and practically we are impacting a lot of lives. In our catchment area, we think, we are the preferred institution to study if they decided to study at the University”. I can confidently say that we are well-poised to admit all these students in case they decided to join us. We have adequate laboratories and studios to be able to train them to acquire more skills. As you can see on the ground, these are all our students, and all the work you see today are there products, so you can attest to the fact that, if they are not well trained they wouldn’t have been able to produce all these things. So, I can tell you we are training our students adequately. Green Ghana: 600,000 trees to be planted across Upper East Region
The Upper East Regional Forestry Manager Mr. Emmanuel Yeboah has said, out of 10 million tree seedlings announced to be planted across the country, a minimum of 600,000 tree seedlings will be planted in the Upper East Region. Mr. Yeboah made this known when addressing the congregation at the third edition of Green Ghana Day, an event organized at the Gambibgo Senior High School in the Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region. Meanwhile, despite announcing the total number of trees the region is estimated to plant at this year’s Green Ghana Day 2023 project, the Forestry Regional Manager also went ahead to explain the region arrived on 600,000 “Today, a minimum of 10 million tree seedlings are to be planted nationwide and in the Upper East Region, a minimum of 600,000 tree seedlings will be planted”. Earl International Group Gold Ltd constructs magnificent school complex in Gbane community
A mining Company operating in Talensi of the Gbane community in the Upper East Region known as Earl International Group Gold Ltd has commissioned a magnificent school building block in the Gbane community. The construction of the Gbane Community Basic School Complex, started 3 years ago by the company, is a 12-unit 1-story classroom block fully furnished with 300 mono-desks and state-of-the-art facilities. Handing over the school to the District Education Directorate, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Earl International Group Gold Ltd Wei Xing said, as for them, children are always their future and hope. According to the CEO, they deeply understand the importance of education, especially for the next generation of the community. Graduation: MITDS graduates PhDs and MPhils completed students, introduces new programme
Millar Institute for Transdisciplinary and Development Studies has introduced a new programme to help upgrade the research skills, techniques, and knowledge of young academics who will want to conduct cutting-edge research of international quality. This was made known by the President of Millar Institute for Transdisciplinary and Development Studies Prof. David Millar during his speech at the 5th congregation of the Institution on Saturday, May 27, 2023. Meanwhile, Prof. Millar hinted that the school is securing funds to kick-start the programme. Close down Zamse SHTS, NAGRAT told Upper East Regional Ghana Education Service—See Why
A statement intercepted by Apexnewsgh.com signed by the Regional Chairman of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) John Akunzebe is demanding the closed down of Zamse Senior High Technical School, following the action and inactions of students against their teachers. On the 7th of May, 2023, a teacher nearly lost his life after students have thrown a block on him from a two-storey school building, and subsequently on the 23rd of May, 2023 at the same school, another disturbance was recorded. Following the recent incidents, NAGRAT believes the life of teachers in the Zamse SHTS is not secured. They are demanding the school to close down. Below are NAGRAT full demands: The National Association of Graduate Teachers Upper East Region says, they have noted with disgust and concern the current happenings in some Senior High Schools and Technical Vocational Institute Zamse SHTS and St. Benedicts TECH/VOC Institute by students. Hence we demand the following: The teacher injured in the Zamse SHTS case by the student should be taken care of by the school, The school Zamse SHTS be closed down by the Regional Director of Education of Upper East Region until the safety of teachers is assured in the working environment, and The incident should be investigated and all those who are found complicated be sanctioned severely to avert such occurrences by students of Zamse SHTS, The police could be invited to help retrieve these guns from the students, If by the close of May 24, 2023, the school is not closed down, we would have no other alternative than to ask the teachers to lay down their tools. She said without the infrastructure initiated by former President Mahama, the Free SHS policy would have been more disastrous. “I drove passed one of the Senior High Schools and said to myself, look at all the propaganda out there that the Free Senior High Schools in the Upper East Region were in bushes. Former President John Dramani Mahama has re-assured Ghanaians he is going to make one of the NPP flagship programme and Initiative Free Senior High School (FSHS) The former President who is currently touring the Upper East Region, gave the assurance in the Zebilla Constituency where he met with delegates ahead of the upcoming Parliamentary primaries on May 13. “The Free SHS is not working well, and when we give them ideas as to how to improve it” Mr. Mahama further said, he has made efforts to advise the government on what to do to improve the FSHS programme but unfortunately, they are not listening. “I advised them what to do and they don’t want to take it. I said, bring all the parents, students, teachers, and everybody together and let us think about how we can improve the Free SHS and then, they do propaganda with it and say, am going to come and abolish it. “We are going to come and make Free SHS better. As soon as we come, we are going to tackle all the abandoned school projects so that we can increase capacity in secondary because, we want by the time we leave office, every secondary school child, all our children will go to school at the same time and then vacate and come home at the same time. We want our children to go school to spend two to three months in school, not go for 4 weeks and come because of some traffic light system”. He pointed Speaking about School Feeding Programme, the former President gave an assurance that his next NDC government is going to improve the poor quality of food they currently give children at the Senior High School. “We are going to improve the feeding for the secondary school students. They have adopted the centralized feeding system and is not working because there were times when the food does not arrive and so the children don’t have food to eat. In the past, we used to give money to the schools and they procured their own food. So, we are going to re-introduced that they can procure their own food and give the children better food than they are giving now. Go to the senior High School and see the kind of food the children are eating, is very poor and so we are coming to improve that. Bolgatanga Technical University disconnected by NEDCO over huge debt of Ghc1.8 million
The Northern Electricity Distribution Company has disconnected power supply at the Bolgatanga Technical University in Sumbrungu. NEDCO intensifies its revenue mobilization exercise to retrieve over GH¢ 125 million unpaid debt owed the company by it’s clients. William Kwame Asare, the Upper East Regional Billing and Revenue Officer told newsmen that, the decision to disconnect the tertiary institution was as a result of their to settle a debt of GH¢ 1.8 million owed NEDCO over the years.. “We engaged the school authorities; the Registrar and his team and the Pro-Vice Chancellor was there and as at February the indebtedness was one million, eighty three thousand, two hundred and fifteen Ghana cedis. It appeared that as at this morning, they had gone to pay fifty thousand out of the over one million which is woefully inadequate. So they are left with one million, thirty three thousand. We engaged them so that they can make some substantial payments. Unfortunately they are unable to meet us so we have no other choice than to disconnect power supply to the University,” Asare explained. According to him, the University must pay at least 75% of the outstanding debt before they will consider reconnecting them back to power. The power distributor has revealed that it is owed GH¢125 million by consumers in its operation areas in the Upper East Region and the North East Region. Meanwhile, the revenue mobilization and disconnection exercise has caused the partial shutdown of the NEDCO Office in Bolgatanga the Upper East Regional capital for all staff to participate in the revenue mobilization exercise.
