As a nice way of saying goodbye to the 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) final year students of Nadeng Zein Academy, Bolgatanga management has organized a counselling ceremony for all the participating students who are returning home to await their results to enable migrate into the Senior High School. Apexnewsgh.com reports Speaking at the counselling ceremony, Hajj Issa Bukari executive director of Nadeng Zein Academy, Bolgatanga extended his congratulatory message to the just-ended BECE final year students. According to Hajj. Bukari, the students are very lucky because, since the beginning of the school, they have not organized such programme for the final year student themselves, but always choose to visit Tongo hospital. He believes the counselling section will help shape them as they go back to their various homes awaiting their results. “You are much aware that every year, immediately after the BECE examinations, we go with you to the maternity ward in Tongo hospital and usually, we send key soap, baby napkin, baby foot ware, toilet soap and so on to the nursing mothers. This year, we have decided, that we will use it for our own selves. Because we cannot always be sending out and forgetting of home. So, today we want to do it with you people, so that maybe next year, we can go to Tongo again”. “I want to thank you for the support you have given to us, the cooperation you have given us, the understanding and tolerance you have given us all these years. It is all meant for you and for us later. For you because we are shaping your character and behaviors to become future leaders. For us, at the end of the day wherever you go and do anything nice, credit comes to Nadeng Zein Academy”. Alhaji Bukari Issah pointed. However, the guest speaker for the counselling section Rev. Ananchinaaba Isaac, advised the final year students to understand they have just started a journey of their lives. He admonished the students to make use of their time to enable them to get the best out of themselves as they wait for their results “You are just beginning life and education, this is just the very first step you have taken and there are many more steps you have to take. So, you need time to think and ponder upon your life and see how you can make it as you go ahead. “As you begin life, is just to set a goal for yourself. Today you are leaving Nadeng Zein Academy, ask yourself next year by this time where will be? Next year by this time, where will I want to be? So, make a goal for yourself and do not waste your time. Remember, there is a saying that time wasted can never be recovered. But this fewer of time while staying at home, you can join any ICT training center and learn something. It is a very good thing you must do. Because, as you move forward from here, you are still going to study it and so make use of it. And again, you can decide that while at home, let me do something that will give me some little money to support myself when am going into Senior High School is also good and that should be a legitimate income generated venture. Touching on their relationship as they leave school, Counsellor Rev. Ananchinaaba advised the students to choose good friends because that will play a very important role in their lives. “You may go from here and meet new from altogether, let me say that relationships are very important, and we are told that a human being is a social being, you cannot live your life all alone, you need people around you but, watch the type of people you have around you, watch the friends you go to and remember this common saying, ‘show me your friend and i will show you the type of person you are’. Hajia Memuna Abubakar, a retired educationist who was present at the counselling ceremony organized for the BECE final year students, also offer her candid advice to them as they migrate from JHS to SHS. “Your duty is to study hard so that you can make a better result, don’t go and look at your friend’s lifestyle and also want to copy their lifestyle it will not do you any good. Because all hands are not equal. And again, stealing is not good at all and there are thieves in Senior High School and so be careful in order not to tarnish the name of your family and the school you graduated from. Ask for what you don’t have from a friend if he gives you fine and he or she did not, avoid it but don’t steal is never a good practice”. She advised However, Head Master of Nadeng Zein Academy Alhaji Baba Razak who expressed satisfaction said, the school management and staff took it upon themselves by making sure the final year students received massive training and preparation before the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). “Each year, we have a special way of preparing our final year students, one of has not been achieved, that is keeping the children here in the school for 3 or 4 months before they even go to write, but this time we are all aware the reason which is the COVID, but aside that we prepare them very well, they always write 9 mocks and we were able to cover it and the masters internally also prepare them very well by giving them a lot of assignments and also creates groups in the class to assist the below average in the class,” He said Meanwhile, some of the final year students who spoke to Apexnewsgh.com says, they are very optimistic that they will excel when the results are released. Ajumako: 25 pregnant teenagers sit for BECE
A total of 25 pregnant teenagers were recorded among the female candidates sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District in the Central Region. In all, 2783 candidates are sitting for the exams that started on Monday 15th November 2021 in the District, 1451 are female and 1331-male. Out of the total number of candidates, 17 were absent from all the six centres namely Ajumako, Ochiso, Mando, Sonkwa, Denkyira and Bisease. Out of the centers visited, Ajumako had seven teenage pregnant candidates, Mando recorded four pregnancies, Bisease recorded eight pregnancies, Ocheso recorded three while Sonkwa also had three pregnancies. Tempane: DCE admonished BECE candidate to be confident in the exam hall
District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Tempane District in the Upper East Region Mr. Issaka Anabida has admonished BECE candidates in his district to be confident and not to entertain any form of fear during their BECE examination. 250 journalists to be sponsored for training annually
Two hundred and fifty selected journalists are set to benefit from a Media Capacity Enhancement Programme (MCEP) annually paid for by the Ministry of Information. The Ministry of Information which announced this at the launch of the programme in Accra on Sunday November 14, 2021, said the programme is expected to provide continuous in-service training for media personnel drawn from across the country in order to improve their skills for the industry. “The role of the Ministry is simply to provide bursaries to participant from the media landscape who will benefit from this capacity enhancement programme annually. Under the programme, a skills gap analysis has been conducted by a working committee of experts and a curriculum based on gaps has been developed. The independent committee has also selected a faculty comprising academics and senior media practitioners from across the country, to administer the program.” Deputy Information Minister Fatima Abubakr who led a press briefing to launch the program said the programme is in line with one of the key strategic objectives of the Ministry which is to assist in the development of the information sector for which reason a successful implementation of the programme is expected to transform Ghana’s media landscape. Present at the launch were the heads of the implementation partner organisations of the programme including the Rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), Prof. Kwamena-Kwansa Aidoo, Chairman of the National Media Commission, Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh and the President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Roland Affail Monney as well as members from media umbrella bodies such as the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and the Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG). For his part, Prof. Aidoo who is also the Chairman of the committee tasked to provide support for the full implementation of the programme was excited about the rolling out of the programme. He said the programme will help equip journalists in the country with the right skill set to be able to go about their jobs. Mr. Monney also indicated that the programme could not come at a better time than this. He encouraged journalists to take advantage of it and gain the requisite skills in journalism and media practice. The MCEP will provide continuous on the job training at regular intervals for media practitioners to improve their skills, support training targeted at content creation for media practitioners, provide a regular platform to support media-introspection on subject related to media management, corporate governance, and media business models and encourage ethical journalism. N/R: Boat capsized kills seven BECE candidates in Saboba
Some seven people believed to be BECE candidates have reportedly died after a boat on which they were crossing the Malkpal River capsized in Saboba in the Northern Region. According to information from the police in Saboba the victims were returning from their head teacher’s farm when the incident happened. The deceased were among some 10 students crossing from Dutuin after helping their headteacher on the farm headteacher. The seven bodies have since been retrieved by a search party according to police. The bodies will be deposited at the Yendi Government Hospital. Police in Saboba have since commenced investigations into the matter. Admit aggrieved 499 law students — Godfred Dame eats humble pie as he orders GLC
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame, has asked the General Legal Council to admit the 499 students who were denied entry into the Ghana School of Law. In a letter to the GLC, the Attorney General suggested that the students be admitted in November this year or in May 2022. According to him, provision can be made for the organization of classes in a way to cater for the entire candidates of the part one course of professional law course. A copy of the letter saw the Attorney General make three proposals including;“ Grant deferred admission to the 499 candidates with effect from May 22. A special provision can be made for the first year professional law course by candidates already admitted to run from October, 2021 to April, 2022. The 499 candidates may undertake their programme from May 2022 and ending November, 2022. GSA to retain NABCO trainees to support nationwide enforcement exercise
The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has taken steps to retain trainees assigned to the organisation under the Nation Builders Corp (NABCO) as it gears up to embark on a massive nationwide standards enforcement drive. The 189 NABCO graduates will support the exercise which seeks to ensure full compliance with the country’s regulations on standards to protect consumers while promoting fair trade practices. Absorbing the trainees will boost the staff strength of GSA to also meet the anticipated increase in demand for their services, following the implementation of borderless trading under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The Director General of GSA, Prof. Alex Dodoo said the authority will leverage on experiences gathered by the trainees to boost its operations while fulfilling government’s pledge of creating jobs. “As we begin the rigorous enforcement of the standards, we certainly will need more hands to widen our coverage. So, there is the need for beefing up our capacity and also creating jobs as President Akufo-Addo envisions,” Prof Dodoo said. Pandemic derailed ‘year of enforcement’ The weak standards enforcement regime in the past allowed the dumping of substandard goods and services on the local market, thereby putting consumers and properties at risk. Plans to roll out the ‘year of enforcement’ measures in both 2020 and 2021 were disrupted following the pandemic-induced restrictions to curtail the spread of COVID-19. “We are gradually returning to normalcy and we need to step up our efforts to protecting consumers as well as importers and manufacturers of quality goods. It is the only way we can boost consumer confidence and prevent the influx of substandard goods on the local market,” the Director-General said. GSA partners with police to enforce standards To help enforce standards and prosecute importers of counterfeit goods, the Ghana Standards Authority has partnered with Ghana Police Service to assist with the exercise. The collaboration was an outcome of a meeting between the GSA and the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare in Accra. The IGP urged GSA to intensify sensitization on standards to and seek public support in the enforcing its mandate. Court remands five KOSS students over murder of colleague
The Konongo-Odumasi District Court presided over by Her Worship Joyce Bamfo has remanded the five students of the Konongo Odumasi Senior high school who are being held over the murder of their colleague student. They were remanded for seven days and will be kept at the Juaso juvenile detention center. The students are standing trial in connection with the stabbing of a 15-year-old first-year student on Friday 5th November 2021. The students allegedly went on bullying spree on Friday night after prep hours leading to the attack on the deceased, Sam’un Larhan. The students are facing murder-related charges in the case held in camera because of their juvenile status. Larhan Sam’un, the deceased, was allegedly stabbed with a knife by his colleague after he attempted to resolve a scuffle between the suspect and his mates. The National Security, has cautioned the public to disregard information on some social media platforms, instructing prospective Ghanaian students and business owners to access an alleged ‘United Nations Money Funds’. The amount ranged from GH¢150,000.00 to GH¢700,000.00. Addressing the media on the fake UN grant in Accra, Madam Fatimatu Abubakar, the Deputy Minister of Information, said the National Security had picked signals that a cybercriminal with mobile number 0206583702 was behind the diabolic act. She said the cybercriminal had also circulated this link: https://Slth-leap-payment.blogspot.com/ to swindle their unsuspecting persons. She said the cybercriminal syndicate further promised their victims of receiving between GH¢150,000.00 and GH¢300,000.00 and GH¢400,000.00 and GH¢700,000.00 depending on their age. Government said there was no such UN grant and urged the public to ignore such false communication, Madam Abubakar said.
