Celebration of Valentine in Upper East boring due to COVID restriction, as VRA light out, worsen the situation

Residents of the Upper East have expressed their dissatisfaction over the 2021 edition of the Valentine celebration, as they described it as boring. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing rate of infection across the country, President Akufo-Addo in his 23rd address to the nation banned some activities as a measure to reduce the increasing rate of COVID infection. “So, fellow Ghanaians, until further notice, funerals, weddings, concerts, theatrical performances, and parties are banned. Private burials, with no more than twenty-five (25) people, can take place, with the enforcement of the social distancing, hygiene and mask wearing protocols. Beaches, night clubs, cinemas, and pubs continue to be shut. Our borders by land and sea remain closed. All workplaces, public and private, must employ a shift-system for workers, in addition to the use of virtual platforms for business or work. Conferences and workshops can take place with all the appropriate protocols. However, I encourage the use of virtual platforms for such engagements. Restaurants should provide take-away services, and should, as much as possible, avoid seated services. The National Sports Authority and the Ghana Football Association should ensure compliance with the twenty-five percent (25%) capacity rule in our stadia, with spectators respecting the social distancing rule and wearing of masks”. However, it appears the COVID restriction ban by President Akufo-Addo isn’t the only predicament bedeviling the 2021 edition of Valentine, especially in the Upper East Region. As if the Volta River Authority (VRA) officials in the Upper East Region does not care about the VAL celebration, they decided to used a power outage to wish their customers a ‘HAPPY VALENTINE’ Engaging one of the event organizers in the region popularly known as CarlmaxColdsweat Daraan the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Xtrame Empire he said, there won’t be fun in this year’s VAL celebration due to the restriction ban by the President. However, he noted that aside from the restriction bans by the President which prevented public gathering, those who would have the wish to celebrate the valentine at the comfort of their homes cannot do so due to the power outage by VRA “Because of the restrictions, it means it won’t be fun, because nowhere to go to. Our traditional way of having fun is probably going to the bar, vea dam, and some other recreational places to mingle with some friends and love ones. But, now that restrictions have been put in place in these places, you can’t do. Even if you had the intention of doing it alone at home, here is the case, the whole region has been given light out it means, if your idea of having fun was sitting and having relaxation watching movie probably taking a drink with your loved one, you can’t even sit in a room because is very hot. CarlmaxColdsweat Daraan told Apexnewsgh.com Valentine’s Day is an annual festival to celebrate romantic love, friendship and admiration. Every year on 14 February people celebrate this day by sending messages of love and affection to partners, family and friends. Couples send Valentine’s Day cards and flowers and spend special time together to honour their love for each other. However, in some part of African, youth see Valentine as a period of having sex with their girl friends and boy friends and these in some area in the past have cause some shortage of condoms some locations. Photos: MPs ignore Akufo-Addo’s directive to ‘party’ at Aqua Safari

Members of Parliament (MPs) breached COVID-19 protocols to party during a three-day training on processes and proceedings of Parliament for new MPs held at Aqua Safari in Ada In some photos published on the official Facebook page of the Parliament of Ghana which has since been deleted, MPs from both sides of the House were seen on the dance floor, dancing their hearts out. “One of the ways people bond with each other is through music and dance. After a hard two day’s work, new Members of Parliament took to the dance floor to release some stress,” caption to the photos read. There was no social distancing. By that below-par behaviour, the MPs have not only defied the president but have also undermined the law passed by Parliament based on which the president issued the COVID-19 directives. The president’s televised 23rd COVID-19 address on Sunday 31 January 2021 barred anyone from organising parties, funerals or weddings. The workshop for parliamentarians ended on Monday, 08 February 2021, which clearly means that the party took place after the president’s directives. The workshop preceding the dance party was attended by Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of the 8th Parliament; Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the Majority Leader; Haruna Iddrisu, Minority Leader; Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah, Clerk to Parliament and some former MPs and experts. The attitude of the legislators is a great concern especially when Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, admonished the MPs to take COVID-19 safety protocols seriously and strictly adhere to them because some members have tested positive for COVID-19. “Even in the House, some members are afflicted by the COVID-19. You may not know who the person is and because of the protocol issues of confidentiality, we are not disclosing those who are now COVID-19 victims. But we have some of us in that category,” Bagbin said. There were reports in the media that some MPs were unwilling to go for COVID-19 tests during a three-day health screening exercise organised for the MPs. The reports indicated that less than a third of the House participated in the free COVID-19 testing, forcing the exercise to be extended. In a subsequent reportage, Joseph Osei Owusu, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament revealed: “Some Members of Parliament who have, in fact, tested positive to the COVID are still coming to the Chamber. Mr Speaker wishes me to inform you that if those members do not withdraw and isolate, he will be forced to publish the names of members who have tested positive in order to warn the rest of us.” President Nana Akufo-Addo during his 23rd broadcast to the nation since Ghana recorded its first two cases of COVID-19 in March 2020 reimposed the ban on public gatherings as part of measures to contain the rise in COVID-19 cases in Ghana. President Akufo-Addo in his address declared: “Until further notice, funerals, weddings, concerts, theatrical performance and parties are banned. Private burials with not more than 25 people can take place with the enforcement of the social distancing, hygiene and mask-wearing protocols. Beaches, nightclubs, cinemas and pubs continue to be shut. Our borders by land and sea remain closed. All workplaces, public and private must implore a shift system for workers in addition to the use of virtual platforms for business or work.” The president added: “Conferences and workshops can take place with all the appropriate protocols. However, I encourage the use of virtual platforms for such engagements. Restaurants should provide takeaway services and should as much as possible avoid seated services. The National Sports Authority and the Ghana Football Association should ensure compliance with the 25 per cent capacity rule with spectators respecting the social distancing rule and the wearing of the mask.” Check out the MPs on the dance floor: Ghanaweb Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Duncan-Williams’ double nose masks at Rawlings’ funeral causes stir

Ghana is not out of the woods yet as the coronavirus cases keep increasing by the day. Due to this, Ghanaians have been advised to strictly adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols to safeguard their lives. Though some Ghanaians are being careless as they move about without even a nose mask on, others, are trying their best not to contract the virus which is fast spreading. One of such persons spotted leaving no stone unturned in this critical moment is the founder and leader of the Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams. During the burial service of the late Jerry John Rawlings at the Black Star Square on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, the man of God was spotted wearing two nose masks. He used the surgical nose mask as the layer and topped it up with the N95 mask for double protection. His new look got him trending on social media. With some in support of his action, others, as usual, trolled him for being ‘too serious’ with the fight against the coronavirus. Meanwhile, medics have advised that people wear double face masks when they move out from their homes. This comes after a new strain of the coronavirus has been detected. Medics say it is more deadly and transmits faster than the COV SARS 2. Ghanaweb Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Contact: 0555568093.
