Prince Opoku Agyemang has been named in the Medeama squad for the first time this season ahead of Techiman Eleven Wonders clash on Wednesday. The deadly striker is expected to partner Burkinabe international Amed Toure in what is expected to be a tasty contest at the Akoon Park. Opoku Agyemang missed the side’s remarkable 2-1 win at Elmina Sharks after being knocked down by a bout of malaria. He has now been declared available after being named in an 18-man squad announced by the gaffer. Agyemang will partner Amed Toure and Abass Mohammed as they strive to wrestle their first Premier League title in the club’s history. Medeama – two-time champions of the coveted FA Cup, have parted ways with striker Abdul Basit Adam -who was signed as a replacement for Opoku Agyemang. The Black Stars B striker was instrumental for Medeama in the Ghana Premier League last season where he netted 11 goals in 14 appearances. He also provided three assists in the process. Agyemang was part of the Ghana team that finished runners-up at the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations in Senegal. He joined the Yellow and Mauves at the beginning of last season following a stellar campaign in the Ghana second-tier with New Edubiase United FC. Barnsley trigger Adeboyejo extension Malawian giants Karonga United announce the signing of Ghanaian player Erick Atsigah Wallas
Karonga United FC have confirmed the signing of Ghanaian defender Erick Atsigah Wallas from BeForward Wanderes on a free transfer. Atsigah will link up with his former gaffer Oscar Kaunda at Karonga after agreeing to mutually terminate his contract with Wanderes. The 22-year-old Ghanaian defender will join Karonga on a short term deal. “I terminated my contract with BeForward Wanderes because they failed to honor the contractual obligations we had earlier on,” Atsigah said. “There were issues concerning my work permits which they were delaying but acquired two foreign base players to boost the squad. “I felt unwanted so I have to sit with the board to seek future elsewhere because I’m well known in the league due to my achievements since my debut season in Malawi.” He concluded. Ex-Hearts of Oak coach Kosta Papic responds to allegations of favouritism
Former Hearts of Oak coach Kosta Papic has decided to keep mute over allegations levelled up against him by the club’s top hierarchy. The Serbian coach after leaving the Hearts of Oak job was accused of favouritism and sowing divisions in his team selection by Board member Dr Nyaho Tamakloe and team captain Fatawu Mohammed. Responding to the allegations levelled up against him, the Serbian coach said, “I’m not going to criticise anybody. To respond to that, I’m just going to move on. Yah, I’m going to take it like that,” . “I don’t want to respond to anybody because the things that have happened between the club, the players and me, are supposed to remain in the club. Not in public. We agreed to resign because of that issue of what I said. “I submitted my resignation, they accepted my resignation and they make me free. I’m not going to respond to what the press say because nobody actually got an interview from me [about the accusations] except you now.” Papic revealed that Black Leopards approached him if he wanted to return to the club, he accepted negotiations started while he was with Hearts of Oak as head coach. “It’s Black Leopards who approached me, I don’t know whether they had seen in the websites or something that there was some small problem in Ghana. They asked me, ‘Do you want to come back?’ I said yes and then we started to talk about that, and we waited for everything to happen in Ghana, and when that happened, I came back, told KickOff.com. Papic resigned on 15 February 2021 stating that he decided to step down as Hearts of Oak coach because of interference in his job by the club’s top hierarchy. He was appointed the technical director of Black Leopard four days time after his resignation. Asante Kotoko CEO pleads with gov’t to speed up renovation works at Baba Yara Sports Stadium
Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer Nana Yaw Amponsah has appealed to the government to speed up with renovation works currently ongoing at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The Baba Yara Sports Stadium which serves as the home venue for Asante Kotoko and King Faisal has been closed down for over a year for renovation works to be carried out. The Porcupine Warriors have relocated to the Accra Sports Stadium to use the venue for their home games in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League as well as in the CAF Inter-club competition. Nana Yaw Amponsah believes the Accra Sports Stadium hasn’t been favourable for his side in the ongoing season as the team has performed better in their away games, juxtaposing it with games played in Accra. He appealed to the government to help the team return to their traditional venue. “We all know that Accra Sports Stadium is not our home. Our home is the Baba Yara Sports Stadium”, Nana Yaw Amponsah told the media after Kotoko’s goalless draw against ES Setif in Algeria. “This time we haven’t lost any match away from the Accra Sports Stadium, which is a very good record. So we will plead with the government to help us so we can go back to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium so they should speed up with the renovation works”, he added. Asante Kotoko have a big game coming up against their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday 28 February 2021. The Porcupine Warriors will be the home team in this fixture due to the adoption of the Accra Sports Stadium as their home venue in the ongoing season. They currently share the same venue with arch-rivals Hearts of Oak. Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Contact: 0555568093

Military to be deployed at Stadia to enforce COVID-19 protocols
The National Sports Authority has stated that it will deploy military men to ensure fans adhere to covid 19 protocols at the Accra sports stadium and other stadia across the country during league games. This development comes on the back of fans breaching Covid -19 protocols during Hearts of Oak’s match week 11 fixture against city rivals Accra Great Olympics. The Phobians will be playing some games behind closed doors after allowing more than the required number of fans access to the venue. The Rainbow club have also been hauled before the Ghana Football Association Disciplinary Committee. Speaking to Starr Sports, Spokesperson for the national sports authority, Charles Amofa, said they are planning on engaging the services of the military to beef up security during games at the Accra Sports Stadium. “We are planning to beef up security at the Accra Sports stadium because we currently we are using the Police service and the Ghana national fire service. “But we are looking at the possibility of enganing the service of the Military to beef up security to ensure fans adhere strictly to Covid-19 protocols at the stadium” Amofa told Starr Sports. Reasons why Kwesi Appiah has distanced himself from the Asante Kotoko job revealed
Former Black Stars coach, James Kwasi Appiah has distanced himself from the Asante Kotoko vacant coaching role claiming “he is not ready” to take up the task. The Ghanaian giants are currently looking to replace Maxwell Konadu who was sacked as head coach of the club about a fortnight back. The Porcupine Warriors parted company with Konadu following a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Accra Great Olympics in the Ghana Premier League. However, Appiah, who is a legend of the club has been linked with the vacant coaching job but a close source has told AshesGyamera.com that the former Black Stars trainer is not interested to take up the role. “There is no way Kwesi Appiah will become the next coach of Asante Kotoko because he is actually not interested at the moment,” the source said. “After his contract with Ghana expired, he decided to take time off football and leave the scene for a while because he has been through a lot.” “Currently, he is doing other businesses which are showing promises and it will be premature to halt all the plans and projections made to become the successor of Maxwell Konadu.” “Everything in this world is possible but this comeback is highly impossible. I believe Kotoko will look elsewhere,” the source added. Assistant coach Johnson Smith has since the dismissal of Maxwell Konadu taken over as the interim coach until a substantive one is hired. Asante Kotoko lose 1-0 to Al Hilal at home in the 20/21 CAF Champions League
An unimpressive performance from Asante Kotoko has seen the team suffering a 1-0 defeat to Al Hilal Omdurman in the second round first leg encounter of the CAF Champions League. The visitors had a bright start to the first half as they dominated play in the first few minutes. With the host failing to settle, the Sudanese club continued to grow in confidence and came close to scoring in the first ten minutes. In the end, Asante Kotoko luckily stayed in the game at the end of the first half and with a chance to come in stronger in the second half. Unfortunately for the Ghanaian giants, they just didn’t have the firepower to outplay Al Hilal. The away team continued to exert their superiority in the second half, threatening almost every five minutes. After a series of attacking plays, Al Hilal finally had the breakthrough in the 77th minute when Vinny Bongonga scored from close range after he was assisted by Mohammed Quatarra. Courtesy of today’s defeat, Asante Kotoko has a difficult task ahead of the reverse fixture that will be played in Sudan. footballghana.com Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications or contact us on 0555568093
Ghana’s Elvis Manu grabs his fifth goal of the Europa League as Ludogorets exit competition
Ghanaian forward Elvis Manu was on target for Ludogorets Razgrad but it was not enough as the Bulgarian giants lost 3-1 to LASK Linz in the final group game of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night. Ludogorets went into the game against the Austrians with no hope of making it to the next round of the competition after losing their previous five matches in Group J. The Greens lads were lucky to end the first half with a goalless draw after Thomas Goiginger missed a penalty for LASK Linz on the 45th minute mark. Coach Stanislav Genchev called upon Elvis Manu from the bench at half time, replacing the Ghanaian within DR Congo forward Mavis Tchibota. Manu quickly announced his presence in the game with a fine finish just a minute after the recess. But the visitors replied with a goal from Phillip Weisinger in the 56th minute. Ludogorets were reduced to ten men after Alex Santana was given a straight red card and a penalty against his side for a cynical tackle. The resultant penalty was buried by Rene Renner in the 61st minute before Emil Madsen rounded off the heavy victory with a super strike in the 67th minute. Manu ended their Europa campaign with an impressive 5 goals from 6 games. Meanwhile, his compatriot and teammate Bernard Tekpetey came on in the 77th minute of the game. LASK Linz have joined Tottenham Hotspurs in qualifying for the next stage of the competition as Ludogorets finished at the bottom of the standings with zero point.
