Nominations were opened on August 1, 2023, and vetting was subsequently conducted for the Adansi Asokwa, Fomena, and Mampong constituencies. Three aspirants are contesting in Adansi Asokwa, two in Fomena, and two in Mampong. The party has scheduled the primaries for these constituencies to take place on Saturday, September 2, 2023. Remember my promises and hold me accountable– John Mahama told Ghanaians
The Flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has informed Ghanaians to remember his promises and hold him accountable when elected President in the 2024 general election. The former President made the pronouncement when giving his post-election acceptance speech at the University of Development Studies (UDS) on Monday, May 15 2023 after he received a massive endorsement of 98.9 percent vote from delegates in the just-ended NDC primaries. Giving his speech, Mr. Mahama said “I wish to reiterate some of my commitments to the people of Ghana. I want you to. I will keep each of the promises when I assume office on January 07, 2025, God willing.” Below are the promises: 1. Restore stability and inclusive growth to the economy and rejuvenate the almost collapsed banking and financial sector. This will involve sweeping reforms at the Bank of Ghana because the Central Bank itself has been part of the problem. 2. I will ensure that Ghana never suffers such a deadly debt management programme that threatens to send elderly people holding government bonds to their early graves and wipe out the investments of the Ghanaian middle class. 3. Prioritize local participation in the banking, financial, telecommunications, mining, oil and gas, agriculture, manufacturing, and construction sectors to generate more jobs for the youth. The Ghanaian young women and men we interact with on daily basis and their colleagues in other African countries are simply tired of jobless GDP figures. 4. Actively attract viable and serious private sector investors to partner government to invest in the productive sectors of the economy for more jobs to be created. This will involve an emphasis on agriculture and agribusiness and will have a strong focus on making Ghanaians own their own micro enterprises. 5. Complete abandoned and ongoing projects instead of rushing to start new ones. We will carry out an inventory of all hospitals, schools, electrification, water, and road projects which have stalled or been abandoned and make annual budgetary allocation for completing them. 6. Beyond the economic front, we will also be very thick on governance because transparent and accountable governance at all levels remains an assured fuel that fires the socio-economic transformation of successful nations. 7. We will establish a Governance Advisory Council to help improve political governance, curb corruption, and ensure the respect for human rights is upheld. The Council will include representatives of civil society organizations, religious leaders, traditional leaders, and ordinary Ghanaians, and among others, they will be empowered to release a State of Governance in Ghana report every year. 8. I will run the leanest but most efficient government under the fourth republic by appointing not more than 60 ministers and deputy ministers. 9. I will work to abolish the payment of Ex-gratia and cut out waste and ostentation in Government. 10. We shall work with Parliament and all stakeholders to complete the constitution review process and strengthen separation of powers. 11. Government procurement is recognized as a major source of corruption and misappropriation of public funds. We will among other measures, set up an Independent Value for Money office to scrutinize all government procurements above a $5 million threshold or as shall be recommended by Parliament. 12. I will give anti-corruption state institutions unfettered space to operate – The days of the Clearing agent must come to an end on January 07, 2025. 13. I will also set up a Commission of Enquiry to investigate the matter of looted State Lands and make recommendations for resolving the vexed issue of expropriated Ga-Dangbe lands. 14. And to deepen our democracy, the Fourth Estate of the realm – the media – must also be given the conducive and collaborative atmosphere to operate as the fourth power that they ought to be without threats, harassments, and assassinations. NDC Primaries: See how your constituency looks like
A total number of Thousand Four and Ninty Two (1492) polling stations and Forty Nine (49) aspirants will be participating in the Parliamentary and Presidential primaries in the Upper East Region come Saturday, May 13. In the Upper East Region, it is clear some incumbent MPs are currently struggling to regain their mandates in the region as far as representing their constituents and constituencies in Parliament is concerned. The battle is becoming too tough few of these Members of Parliament. In fact, few of these incumbent MPs did not see this tough battle coming. Some of them were relaxed until Monday, May 8, 2023, when they started seeing massive competition from their opponents. Some of these MPs were strategic to remove money for their campaigns, especially in the area of lobbying delegates, some of these MPs also claimed their incumbency will do the magic for them but, happenings on the campaign ground have shown their mentality deceived them big time. Navrongo is one the place easily predicted a smooth win for the Incumbent, But as we speak, the incumbent is not finding it easy due to the ongoing Kessana and Nankana tribal campaign which seriously penetrating in favor of Mr. Simon. But, however, Mr. STC is pushing we are seeing him through because of the power of incumbency. Binduri is another interesting area to watch out for, the retired police who doubles as a lawyer, is showing some level of seriousness as far as capturing the ticket is concerned. The former MP for the area Dr. Robert who lost the seat to the NPP is equally fighting so hard. We are seeing him going through the contest. But it won’t be an easy journey or if you like a walk away for him. Chana/Paga is one of the areas, the MP Dalou is facing a massive contest, The MP himself is aware the battle is too tough for him at this stage. Alamzy is heard across all the branches. But the only challenges we observed that might go against Alamzy is also the tribal campaign against him as some claimed he is a stranger and also contesting from the same zone with Lawyer. They might share their votes and that may give the incumbent the opportunity. Garu is one of the areas the incumbent MP is not currently at peace especially with the caliber of personalities contesting him, especially with the name Dr. Thomas Anaba being on top. From what we have gathered already, the incumbent might not return back to represent the people of Garu. The majority believes he has served for 12 years which means 4 years as DCE and 8 years Member of Parliament and according to them, is time to give another person the opportunity to serve. Nabdam is a very strange area to watch out for, the incumbent Dr. Kurt Nawaane is not finding it easy, his contender Lamtiig Apanga has made the competition in the constituency an interesting one. In the history of the NDC internal party contest, this particular one has seen massive change. In the past, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane the incumbent, has been contested twice by Dr. Vida a University lecturer but has not witnessed such a tough contest as witnessed even in this current primaries. In the Nabdam Constituency, tribal campaigns cannot be ruled out. Nabdam constituency is having a total number of 50 polling stations and out of the 50 polling stations, Lawyer Apanga is said to be having the upper hand with 31 polling stations, only leaving just 19 for the incumbent MP. Even though, Dr. Nawaane has done his best in terms of development in the constituency example the Police post he constructed in Pelengu, the maths set he always donates to the BECE students, some boreholes he has constructed and schools fees paid for some students in the area. Lawyer Apanga, has also provided some development to the Nabdam people, for example, the 6 boreholes, COVID-19 donations and etc. However, he is also loved by his people. We are seeing a tough contest in the Nabdam constituency, the chances of both candidates is tiny. Meaning whoever that will emerge victories will win by just a small margin. Nabdam is an interesting place. Talensi, The number of candidates contesting for just one seat in the Talensi Constituency is making it difficult for us looking at their individual qualities. However, ‘if’ the zone factor plays as we normally witnessed in almost all the Talensi political elections, then the Talensi Constituency is likely to elect the youngest candidate amongst the eight in the person of Solomon TTB. This is because he is the only representative coming from the Eastern Zone which is perceived to have the largest votes. Zinekena Solomon TTB, Edward Awunore, John Yaro, Mahama Dung Daniel, Nathaniel Daraan Kugre. Pusiga: This is another interesting area to watch keenly. We observed that delegates were not happy with the incumbent MP. The MP has been in power for almost 12 years and yet she couldn’t provide the party with a car, which has caused the party always going to NPP to borrow their party car ‘No empowerment for party members. She is a ‘boss’ not a ‘leader’ They also claimed she is now trying to use material things to buy their conscience. Note: No one can underrate the power of incumbency at the eve night. From the views we gathered from those who matter in the Pusiga Constituency, Mr. George B. Azungah is likely to lead NDC to the Promised Land as the Pusiga Parliamentary Candidate ahead of the 2024. Bongo: The pressure in Bongo is massive. They are three aspiring candidates Lawyer Charles Dua, Edward Bawa, and Prof. Avea Nsoh. From our observation, the competition is between the incumbent and the astute Lawyer Dua. Our observation could confirm that the incumbent Edward Bawa is not an easy contest at all. Lawyer Dua has shown massive seriousness ahead of the primaries. He is currently giving the incumbent a
The law is not mandatory for the EC to supervise the parliamentary and presidential primaries–EC
Dr Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Electoral Services for the Electoral Commission (EC) has said, the law does not make it mandatory for the Electoral Commission to Supervise the Parliamentary and Presidential primaries. According to him, Is not good to go ahead to supervise election when people are contesting the register, because the foundation of any good election is the register. “So, before the court injection they have written to us and we have invited to meet. But before we could meet the injunction came”. He said Asking whether is Mandatory for the EC to supervise the primaries? The EC Director says, “This one, the law is not mandatory for us to supervise the primaries but the executive ones are mandatory. Meanwhile, Abraham Amaliba leader of the NDC legal team said, they are very aware that is not mandatory for the EC to supervise the upcoming primaries. According to Mr. Amaliba, they only decides to engage the Electoral Commission for transparency sake. It is not clear what the party decision we be. The injunction will be heard on Friday. Dr. Duffour filed an injunction application at the Accra High Court seeking to stop the elections over concerns about the electoral album. Among the reliefs he is seeking are declaration that the photo album register issued by the party is incomplete and inaccurate and that the party be ordered to prepare and deliver a complete and accurate photo album register to all the presidential aspirants at least five weeks ahead of the elections to enable the aspirants carry out the needed verification of the photo album register. However, Mr. Kojo Bonsu who also expressed dissatisfaction shared the same sentiments as Dr. Duffuor. NDC hits with internal party war as Duffuor camp frowns over alleged rigging
“If the NDC, as a political organisation, can do this to ourselves in our intra-party elections, what do we expect from the Electoral Commission (EC) in the run-up to the 2024 elections?” Mr James Agbey, head of the Duffuor Campaign team’s security detail, has said. The Kwabena Duffuor campaign team said if the opposition National Democratic Congress as a party, could do this to their own, then they have no moral right to blame the Electoral Commission in the upcoming 2024 election when such issues are raised. “Can the NDC accuse the EC of electoral malfeasance and corruptible conduct when the party is trapped in the same scheme in its own backyard all in an attempt to give Mahama an undue advantage over other candidates?”Mr. Agbey asked “What is the point of intra-party politics and leadership if they can’t even publicly correct the record when they are wrong?” he asked. Mr. Agbey described the processes leading up to the primaries as a “charade” and “choreographed shenanigan” being masterminded by a “selfish” and “parochial” faction within the party’s national executives who are supporting and conniving with the Mahama camp to hijack and rig the entire election in his favour. “In fact, I do take issue with the manner the Mahama camp is conniving with the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC to disenfranchise a good number of delegates and to rig the processes leading up to the forthcoming 13th May presidential primaries for Mahama”. He said: “The whole charade regarding the non-availability of a complete photo album for the elections is completely against the party’s rules of engagement”. Mr Agbey added: “Indeed, it is extremely dubious, criminal and illegal for the processes leading to the entire election to be hijacked by Mahama”. According to him, “this display of utter greed by Mahama to win at all cost, reeked of poor judgement and a complete lack of respect for the responsibility he holds as a leader”. “In my eyes, this is just the first shot in a series of campaigns to destabilise the NDC by the Mahama faction for their selfish and parochial agenda”, he noted. Dr Duffuor has filed processes at the court for an injunction on the presidential primaries scheduled for 13 May 2013. According to him, data from only 220 out of the 275 constituencies have been verified. He also said an exceptional list of 74,799 has been created which cannot be verified because of scanty information. For no credible reason, he noted, among others that 3,910 eligible voters at the 220 constituencies have been disenfranchised. Below is the full statement issued by Dr Kwabena Duffuor’s campaign team’s head of security: For Immediate Release Wednesday 10th May 2023 We’re ready to use legitimate force to deal with Mahama if need be. I, James Agbey, head of Security Detail of Duffuor 2024 campaign wishes to state unequivocally that the NDC belongs to all of us and we won’t sit down for Mahama to take us on a jolly ride. In fact, I do take issue with the manner the Mahama camp is conniving with the Functional Executive Committee(FEC) of the NDC to disenfranchise a good number of delegates, and to rig the processess leading up to the forthcoming 13th May presidential primaries for Mahama. The whole charade regarding the non-availability of complete photo album for the elections is completely against the party’s rules of engagement. Indeed, it is extremely dubious, criminal and illegal for the processes leading to the entire election to be hijacked by Mahama. This display of utter greed by Mahama to win at all costs reeked of poor judgement and a complete lack of respect for the responsibility he holds as a leader. In my eyes, this is just the first shot in a series of campaigns to destabilise the NDC by the Mahama faction for their selfish and parochial agenda. As one of those who served the party in the Greater Accra Region as Director of Security operations in 2020, and currently in charge of Dr Duffuor’s Security detail, this development made me very upset. It is upsetting to see the NDC swimming in the gutters to please one man at the expense of our collective good. As a matter of fact, Mahama’s resolute insistence to not follow the rules of engagement regarding this election shows a fundamental disdain for the concept of accountability. If the NDC, as a political organisation, can do this to ourselves in our intra-party elections, what do we expect from the Electoral Commission (EC) in the run-up to the 2024 elections? Can the NDC accuse the EC of electoral malfeasance and corruptible conduct when the party is trapped in the same scheme in its own backyard all in an attempt to give Mahama an undue advantage over other candidates? What is the point of intra-party politics and leadership if they can’t even publicly correct the record when they are wrong? This obviously is more likely strong evidence that Mahama and his supporters continue to muddy the waters or to put it more plainly deflect attention from their failures and misdemeanours. Allowing them to continue with this charade and the choreographed shenanigan is utterly abhorrent. At this juncture, let me sound a note of caution to all concerned, and warn that we’re ready to use legitimate force and every means under the sun to get Mahama out of the way and restore dignity and respect to the NDC. This election is totally different from the 2018 one, where Prof Joshua Alabi and Goosie Tanoh allowed Mahama to have his way. We are on a rescue mission to rescue the party from the claws of Mahama. Those of us on the Duffuor team are ready for Mahama and his diabolics. We are ready to bring an end to this opportunistic appropriation. I just wish the people who know better would sit up. But perhaps that cannot happen until we send out strong signals to them that we are ever ready to
Full statement: NDC MoT Presser on Gold Mafia and Galamsey Report
A PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY COMRADE SAMMY GYAMFI ESQ., NATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER OF THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS. 25th April, 2023 SPECIAL PROSECUTOR AND PARLIAMENT MUST PROBE FRIMPONG BOATENG’S “GALAMSEY” REPORT AND ALLEGATIONS OF MONEY LAUNDERING INVOLVING PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO IN THE LATEST “GOLD MAFIA” UNDERCOVER INVESTIGATION BY AL JAZEERA. AL JAZEERA’S GOLD MAFIA INVESTIGATION Good morning to you, our media partners here present, in the sixteen regions of Ghana and across the world. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sighted an undercover investigative work that was recently broadcast by international news network, Al Jazeera. The said documentary forms part of a fourpart investigation by Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit (I-Unit), which uncovered an international Gold Smuggling mafia and Money Laundering racket operating in various parts of Africa. Friends from the media, of particular concern to us and indeed, the people of Ghana, is the reference to a relationship between the deadly racket and the President of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other high-ranking officials of the ruling NPP government. In the One-hour, thirteen-minute video documentary, one Alistair Mathias who has gained notoriety for designing money laundering schemes for corrupt African Leaders, could be seen boasting about his close relationship with President Akufo-Addo and other high-profile African leaders. In the particular portion of this new investigative documentary that has got many tongues wagging, the said Alistair Mathias who is described as a Canadian citizen and a financial architect operating a gold smuggling syndicate in Ghana called Guldrest, confided in Al Jazeera undercover reporters who posed as Chinese Businessmen, about his constant dealings with President Akufo-Addo. Some of the underhand dealings this shady character revealed include how the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government for instance can award his company, Mathias Holdings an inflated contract worth $100 million, which he in turn subcontracts to another company for a value of about $80 million, thereby making a staggering profit of $20 million on the contract. Friends from the media, the mastermind of these crimes further revealed how the padded amount on such deals is then shared among the parties – corrupt officials in the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government on the one hand, and Mathias Holdings on the other hand. Under this criminal scheme, Mathias further undertakes to bank the share of his corrupt collaborators in the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government in offshore accounts until such a time that the money is needed by them. This is how grand corruption is created by elements in the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, who inflate contracts and then deposit the stolen funds in the form of “commissions” with this devious individual whose operations span across other African countries. And by the way, commissions in this gold smuggling, money laundering and illicit business context simply means bribe. As if the above dealings were not scandalous enough, we further gleaned from the documentary how supply and procurement contracts are awarded to this knavish partner of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Presidency, who constantly returns kickbacks from these inflated contracts through their elaborate corrupt network at the expense of value for money and the good people of Ghana. Ladies and gentlemen, the nefarious Alistair Mathias further confessed to how he manages to smuggle one ton of gold with a face value of $40 million from Ghana, every month, with the active collusion of high-ups in the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government and in collaboration with one Kamlesh Pattni, an Indian man domiciled in Kenya, who is described as the grandmaster of the Gold Mafia. This development, my fellow countrymen and women, adds to a litany of similar acts of grand corruption and collusion involving President Akufo-Addo, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and other high-ranking NPP government officials. Ghanaians have not forgotten about the Number #12 documentary by ace Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, in which former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi was nabbed in similar fashion negotiating kickbacks from supposed investors for President Akufo-Addo and other government officials. Again, and of very recent memory is the “Galamsey Economy” undercover investigation by the same Anas Aremeyaw Anas, in which a serving Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen is captured on video negotiating bribes and “Appearance Fees” to the tune of $250,000 from supposed investors for and on behalf of the Vice President, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia. The question every objective Ghanaian should be asking, is how come the names of the President and his Vice, keep popping up in such shady deals and corruption scandals? Why always them? It could neither be mere speculation nor influence peddling any longer. This trend that has now received such unenviable global publicity, must worry every well-meaning Ghanaian. We in the National Democratic Congress are deeply concerned about the damning revelations about our President in this latest documentary by Al Jazeera. The continuous naming of the President and his Vice in all manner of bribe-taking syndicates, must be a cause for concern for every patriotic Ghanaian who cares about the image of the Presidency. Ladies and gentlemen of the media, Al Jazeera’s earth-shaking findings also give currency to the justifiable concerns raised about government’s opaque Gold-for-Oil deal which many experts, civil society organizations and the NDC have had legitimate grounds to criticize and demand transparency and accountability. Never in the history of our country has the Presidency been reduced to a criminal Mafia as we are witnessing today. As has become standard practice under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government, the Presidency has kept a deafening silence on this matter in the wake of the damning revelations contained in the Al Jazeera documentary. Given the record and penchant of this government to coverup graft, Ghanaians cannot and must not accept silence or the usual flippant denials emanating from the Presidency or government corridors on this matter. It is against this backdrop that the NDC hereby calls on the Special Prosecutor to take keen interest in this matter and launch a full-scale investigation into this matter with the aim of prosecuting anyone found culpable. Given the considerable public interest in this

Mr. Iddrisu, who is poised to win the Tamale South constituency seat for the sixth time, said this when he filed his nomination to contest the parliamentary primaries of the NDC over the weekend. The Tamale South MP, on Sunday, March 19, 2023, was accompanied by some Northern regional executives, constituency executives, and Members of Parliament among other bigwigs of the party, to submit his nomination at the constituency office. Addressing journalists in Tamale, Mr Iddrisu said: “If you’ve seen me this morning, it’s for an important reason, I’m here to evince my intention to renew my mandate as the Member of Parliament for Tamale South.” “I believe this would be my sixth term running, so I am here to honor the NDC party constitutional requirement of filing my nomination as the NDC unbeatable candidate for Tamale South for the 2024 general elections” he added. The former Minister of Trade stated that the day only marked the beginning of the journey to the victory of the NDC in 2024. “And for Tamale South, it remains a formidable NDC constituency. Indeed, Tamale South – those who say Haruna is this, Haruna is that, let anybody challenge me that he contributes more votes to NDC in Northern Ghana than Haruna Iddrisu and probably beyond. I can extend my numbers beyond Bono Ahafo towards some other regions,” he stated. He argued further that the Tamale South constituency in the last presidential and parliamentary elections made a significant contribution of 69,000 votes and pledged to increase it to 90,000 for John Mahama or whoever wins the NDC Presidential primaries. “Tamale South in the last presidential and parliamentary elections made a significant contribution of 69,000 votes, my pledge this year with you, with your assurance and support is 90,000 for John Mahama or whoever wins the NDC Presidential primaries,” he stated. —Classfm—
