John Mahama NDC ballooned Ghana’s debt stock by 819%-–Stephen Ntim

National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr. Stephen Ntim has revealed, the administrations of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that took over from President John Kufuor added the most to Ghana’s debt stock. Mr. Ntim made the revelation at a press conference on Tuesday, 4 April 2023. “One of the central claims of the NDC’s false State of the Nation address is that this government has over-borrowed. This is not true, but the NDC keeps repeating it”. According to him, “The NDC likes to promote this misinformation by computing our debt stock using nominal figures because it hides their unprecedented rate of debt accumulation. The best way to compute our debt to see which government has borrowed more by using the rate accumulation”. Below is the full statement: THE NATIONAL CHAIRMAN OF THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY, STEPHEN AYESU NTIM, RESPONDS TO THE NDC’S SO-CALLED TRUE STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS DATE: TUESDAY MARCH 28th, 2023 @ 11:00 am VENUE: ALISA HOTEL 1. Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, Media, and dear People of Ghana! Good morning, and thank you for honouring our invitation to attend this press conference. 2. On 8th March 2023, the President of the Republic of Ghana delivered a Message on the State of the Nation (SONA) under Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution as a symbol and practical demonstration of accountability, and with the utmost respect to the people of Ghana. 3. The President, in his delivery, addressed critical issues of concern to all Ghanaians. The focus of the SONA was on the economic situation of our country and how quickly we are stabilising the economy and working our way back to the period of rapid economic growth. 4. The SONA provided an honest assessment of our country’s situation and sought the support of Ghanaians in addressing the challenges facing our country with hope and confidence. 5. Then, on 20th March 2023, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), as usual, produced a distorted account of the President’s state of the nation address in an attempt to ride on the emotions of Ghanaians for their political gain. Activities leading to the NDC’s UPSA press conference were dramatised as though the NDC had something unprecedented to present. It was an anticlimax because, in the end, nothing new was said except the same old exaggeration and deliberate misrepresentation of facts. 6. The statement read by the NDC Chairman, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, was far from a document seeking to discuss the state of our country. There was no serious analysis of the economy, no assessment of sectoral developments, and no attempt to propose solutions to the current economic challenges. 7. Ordinarily, we would refrain from responding to the NDC on the SONA. However, given the extent of misinformation contained in their statement, we owe a duty to Ghanaians to straighten the distortions designed to incite disaffection rather than to inform Ghanaians. 8. My clarification of the NDC’s statement will focus mainly on the economy and comments on the other matters to do with the misinformation about the size of the government and the subject of corruption. The Economy 9. First, let me thank the good people of Ghana for supporting the government as we work together to resolve this historic economic crisis that has disrupted the global economy and impacted Ghana. 10.Ghana’s economy was the toast of the world until Covid-19. Before 2020, Ghana was hailed among the fastest-growing economies in the world. But COVID-19 disrupted the growth momentum of our economy and later the Russia-Ukraine War. As a result of these factors, Ghana’s economy, which was among the fastest-growing economies in the world, started to decelerate in 2020, and the government has committed everything in its toolkit to regenerate it. 11.Ladies and gentlemen, the ravaging impact of Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine War on the global economy are visible all around us. But somehow, the NDC has refused to acknowledge or admit this fact to continue misinforming Ghanaians that this government has mismanaged the economy. 12.So, the NDC’s press conference was merely a repetition of their denial of the impact of Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine War on the economy. The NDC hopes that by consistently propagating this blatant misinformation, it will get enough Ghanaians to come to believe it. 13.Ladies and gentlemen of the media, I am concerned about this deliberate misinformation campaign by the NDC to deny the impact of Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine War on Ghana’s economy. This is because, over time, by hearing this lie repeatedly, it begins to resemble the truth for the consumption or acceptance of the general public. 14.The media is not exempted from this misinformation campaign because you, too, are feeling the pinch of the hardships in the country. Our pensioners were recently demonstrating against the inevitable Domestic Debt Exchange Programme, and many others are concerned about increasing taxes. These real bread-and-butter issues that make it difficult for anyone to believe it is not the government’s fault that we are going through these hard times. This is the opportunity the NDC seeks to exploit, to weaponise the hardships caused by these external factors to make the government unpopular. 15.The plain truth is that this government has managed the economy diligently and well. The hardships we are experiencing in Ghana are being experienced everywhere because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine War. Workers in some of the world’s biggest economies are demanding salary increases due to historic global inflation. It is happening in—the United Kingdom, France and Germany. In the United Kingdom, I was told a couple of weeks ago that they had to ration vegetables and cooking oil. Can you imagine rationing pepper in Ghana? 16.The Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, confirmed the impact of Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine War on the United States economy and how difficult the effort to rebuild has been. 17.Kenya, one of the most dynamic economies in East Africa, has recently run out of U.S. dollars. Don’t attempt taking credit of Regional Hospital Dialysis Center Initiative–NPP to NDC

The Communication Director of the governing New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region Peter Ayinbisa has cautioned the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to desist from attempting to take credit from the yet-to-launch Dialysis center initiative at the Regional hospital. He said:“Another issue raised by the NDC which is germane but poorly premised is the lack of a dialysis center at the regional hospital. The absence of a dialysis center means that patients with kidney-related conditions must travel to other regions to access dialysis services, which can be costly and time-consuming. “While we support the call for such a critical facility, the known convention around the country shows that government alone may not suffice in providing us this facility. We, therefore, support the calls for benevolent sons and daughters of the upper east and beyond to lend their unflinching support to this worthy course. “In addition, the government has also stated that it is working on measures to prevent kidney-related conditions and promote healthy lifestyles. This includes initiatives to increase awareness about the importance of regular health check-ups, proper nutrition, and physical activity. However, he stressed that the initiative was started by a doctor at the Regional Hospital “I want to put it on record that, is not the NDC who is initiating the dialysis center project” Dr. Emmanuel Nsobila Akatibo, a Physician Specialist with the Upper East Regional hospital initiated a serious campaign to get a dialysis center in the region. Dominic Akuritinga-yine for not bringing development that directly affects their lives positively in the constituency. The Regional Youth Organizer did not miss any words whiles addressing the media during a Health Walk organized in the Constituency on Saturday, February 25, 2023. The library project that he started is still uncompleted but the Gh2.5 million party office that he built has been completed. Do you know what that money can do for this constituency? Do you know the number of boreholes that would have been constructed?” The Youth Organizer further tasked the youth to remain resolute and steadfast: “We have only one seat but with a united front, we can win more seats and the Bolga East seat is one of them, there is no doubt about that. I, therefore, urge the youth of the party in this constituency to continue to remain resolute and steadfast and I know with that commitment, God will reward us.” The health walk saw dignitaries of the party in the constituency and the region, such as the former 1st Vice Chairman, Dr. Moses Atanga, Regional Youth Organizer, Sala-Hudeen, Regional first Vice, Mr. Isaac Atesige, Regional Organizer, Charles Ndaabon, Regional Secretary, Figo, Awonekai, and all constituency executives and other high profile executives were in attendance. The New Patriotic Party needs a marketable candidate— Alan John Kyerematen

A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan John Kyerematen says the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is not looking for a flagbearer but rather someone who NPP can market to the country and beyond Ghana. Apexnewsgh.com report The former Trade Minister, made the pronouncement when addressing party men and women in Bolgatanga as part of his engagement. “The delegates who eventually will be deciding who becomes the flagbearer will make a decision to someone who NPP can market to the country and beyond Ghana. Basically, that’s the over-ranking consideration that abreast the attention of delegates”. He also noted, that the party is looking for somebody who can consolidate the NPP vote in their stronghold in the Ashanti Region. ”We are not looking for a flagbearer, we are looking for somebody who becomes president and by doing so puts NPP in power. We are looking for someone who can consolidate our votes in our strongholds Ashanti region and also dilute the strength of the NDC in their stronghold. We need someone who will unify not just the party but the country and stability to our nation. However, as part of his tour to the region, Mr. Kyerematen walked through the Bolgatanga Market as he exchanges pleasantries with the market men and women. NDC man who said it’s oK to kill NPP supporters for Mahama’s victory detained by police

Police in the Ashanti region has detained the Suame Constituency youth organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for inflaming electoral violence. Razak Koampa Avoliya, who has been charged with offensive conduct, was detained at the Suntreso District police command after turning himself in at the regional police headquarters. He was accompanied to the police station by the National Organiser of the NDC, Mr Joseph Yamin; Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Bandi as well as some regional executives of the party. Scores of supporters of the party in the Suame constituency as well as other constituencies in the region also stormed the police station to sympathise with him amidst war chants. Speaking to the media, the lawyer for the NDC youth organiser, Mr Evans Amankwa, told the media that his client has been charged after his statement was taken. Mr Amankwa said Koampa, popularly called ‘Mosquito’, was supposed to be taken to court but due to the time factor, he will rather be arraigned tomorrow. Mr Amankwa wants the police to take steps to arrest members of the NPP who have made similar statements as his client to avoid selective justice. His client, he said, meant what he said and is not in any way perturbed about it but has no intention of destabilising the peace of the nation as the statement has been misinterpreted. The suspect, in a viral video, was captured calling on supporters of the NDC to attack and even kill supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the run-up to the 2024 general elections.

Politics in Ghana, too divisive Alan Kyerematen

Former Trades Minister Alan Kyerematen, has stated that politics in Ghana is too divisive. He believes that keeps out some of the country’s best talents in offering themselves for political appointments. “Yes, we pride ourselves as being the bastion of democracy in Africa, but that does not mean that we should allow partisan politics to destroy our collective interests”. The former Trade Minister also noted that “…the arrogance of power has been a major obstruction to progress in our country. People in positions of authority must understand that leadership is an opportunity to serve the people, and not to lord it over them. In servant leadership, humility is an asset and not a weakness, He made this known on Tuesday, 10 January 2023 during his national broadcast. Read Mr Kyerematen’s full address below: Fellow countrymen and women. Friends of Ghana. Let me start first by wishing you all a happy, healthy, productive and prosperous New Year. Secondly, I wish to express formally, my profound gratitude to His Excellency the President for the opportunity given me to serve the good people of Ghana in his Administration over the last six years, and for graciously accepting my resignation as Cabinet Minister responsible for Trade and Industry, with effect from 16th of January 2023. Thirdly, I wish to use this platform to formally announce my decision to contest the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party when the party officially opens nominations for that purpose. His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has been a good friend of mine and will always remain so based on our shared commitment to the ideals and principles that inspired the founding fathers of our great Party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP). We have competed in the past but have always worked together thereafter. The president has laid a strong foundation for the socioeconomic development of our country, although I believe there are things that could have been done differently. My vision is to build a superstructure on this foundation that will bring prosperity to our nation. The pre-COVID-19 performance of our economy, the flagship programmes including the Free SHS, the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative, the Planting for Food and Jobs programme, the Agenda 111 project and the COVID-19 Response initiatives, are all testimonies of the strong leadership that the president has provided over the last six years. In spite of all of the above, however, it is an undeniable fact that the combined effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, has stampeded our country into a crisis of unprecedented proportions, with its negative impacts on the economy, businesses, and on our social lives. I have no doubt that the anticipated International Monetary Fund (IMF) Support Package will restore confidence in our economy, and bring it back to the pre-COVID levels. Fellow Countrymen and Women This is the seventeenth time that we have gone to the IMF over the last 57 years. We promised never to go back but we have gone back. One of the lessons that we have learnt from the recent developments is that Ghana’s economy is still fragile, vulnerable and susceptible to both external and domestic shocks. This primarily is as a result of the fact that our economy is highly dependent on the export of commodities with little or no value addition. Indeed, the 5.1% projected GDP growth for the Ghanaian economy for 2023 is based on the anticipated increase in commodity prices. To avoid going back to the IMF, we need a new plan. A plan that will lead us to a more self-reliant and resilient economy. That plan must move Ghana from stability and growth to transformation. Fellow Countrymen and Women If, by the will of God and through your goodwill, I am voted first, as the flagbearer of the NPP and subsequently as president of the Republic in the next general elections, I will become the transformational leader of our time, who will build on the foundations laid by successive leaders of our nation over the last sixty-five (65) years. To achieve this strategic goal of transforming our dear country to become the shining star of the new Africa, I will, as president, launch and lead the execution of the Great Transformational Plan (GTP) of Ghana which will span the period 2025 to 2030. The Post-COVID Economic Recovery Programme (P-CERP) currently being implemented with the anticipated support from the IMF from 2023 to 2025, will be a transitional economic programme leading to the roll out of this Great Transformational Plan. Fellow Countrymen and Women Before I proceed to provide a brief insight into the key elements of the Great Transformational Plan, seven critical considerations would need to be taken into account to guarantee the success of the Plan. The primacy of the private sector in our national development agenda. The private sector, both domestic and foreign, formal and informal has to be at the centre of our transformational agenda. The government’s focus must be to facilitate the process of making our private sector competitive, by creating an enabling environment for businesses. Attitude to work and enforcement of discipline. We, as a people, should appreciate the need for discipline in all spheres of our national lives and change our attitude to work. Whether you are working for the private sector or for government, as a worker, you are not doing a favour to your employer. It is your duty to ensure that you earn your living from the efforts of your labour. Corruption and petty theft or thievery, particularly from the public purse, deny our country the benefit of utilising its tax revenue and other resources for the development of our country. The arrogance of power has been a major obstruction to progress in our country.
