JUSTIN UER: Dr. Bawumia challenged John Mahama to show his legacy in the Upper East Region

Vice President of the Republic of Ghana Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has challenged former President Mahama John Dramani Mahama to tell the people of Upper East and the north just one legacy of his northern development vehicle Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) after wasting $100million dollars of taxpayer’s money. According to Dr. Bawumia, the 2020 election is about records and former President Mahama’s monumental SADA failure offers him a zero record to compare with the massive and verifiable development record of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as far as northern development is concerned. He further questioned, why the people of the Upper East Region must sacrifice their votes to the former President John Mahama after giving him the opportunity as a northern brother and son and he didn’t deliver “…. the people of Upper East, I know you will recall that in 2008 John Mahama the former president came to this region, came to north and told that we should vote for him because he was our northern brother. Didn’t he say that? That we should vote for him because he was our northern brother, and by and large the north did vote for him, isn’t that the case?” He asked “….he went into the office for 8 years, for 8 years, he was in office as Vice President and President. Can the Upper East tell us, what exactly did Mahama do for the Upper East Region in 8 years? Where are the programmes, what legacy did John Mahama left in the Upper East Region after 8 years? The signature development project for the northern region was SADA. Upper East Region, what are the project SADA left behind, can you point to any project after $100 million dollars, where are the projects, of course, we know about the guineafowl that flow to Burkina Faso, they did not do any projects, they spent the money, you have money to come and help your people to eliminate the poverty of your people and you engage in projects of guineafowl flying to Burkina Faso, that is not development.” Dr. stressed that Akufo Addo’s vision, is a different vision and with Akufo Addo, you have him as your younger brother Dr. Bawumia as Vice President and they are delivering. “…. we have begun the biggest investment in infrastructure in Northern Ghana since independence which is the Pwalungu Dam. The Pwalungu multipurpose dam is the biggest and Nana Akufo Addo is beginning it. In John Mahama’s 8 years not even one road was completed in the whole of the Upper East Region, not one road. Today, we are virtually done with the Bolgatanga-Bawku road, but this is just less than 4 years, in 8 years they couldn’t do one project.” “…. is the same John Mahama want to come back to be President of the country after such a poor record development of the Upper East Region? Their record was a monumental failure of development and so we don’t want a return, we are a step forward already with Nana Akufo Addo let’s keep going forward.” The Vice President is in the Upper East Region for a 3-day campaign tour. UER: Sirigu Chief embraced Dr. Bawumia for government good policies

The Paramount Chief of Sirigu Traditional Area, Naba Roland Akwara Atogumdeya III, has expressed gratitude to the government for their wonderful social intervention policies such as Planting for Food and Jobs and free SHS which he said are transforming the lives of the people in the Sirigu community. However, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said that in less than 4 years, the NPP government has completed 688 out of a total of 1,488 developmental projects for the people of the Upper East Region. The Vice President made the revelation in Mirigu in the Kessena-Nankana West District when addressing a durbar of chiefs disclosed this while addressing a durbar of chiefs as part of his campaign tour in the Region Even though Dr. Bawumia did not throw more light on the specific projects and their whereabout, he stressed that if necessary, the projects could be pointed out at any time. “…so far in the Upper East Region alone, we are doing 1488 projects and we have completed 688 projects in 4 years.” However, the Vice President pronouncement is as a result of his initial comment he made when he last visited the Paramount Chief of Sirigu traditional area, where he stated that government under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo had performed more better in their 4-years than the entire 8-year rule of the opposition National Democratic Congress. He was confident that the NPP government was poised to deliver on its campaign promises; unlike the Mahama administration where guinea fowls fled to Burkina Faso. The paramount chief uses the opportunity to appeal to the government for a new constituency or district which will cater to the Eastern part of the existing Kassena-Nankana West District. It’s Only Akufo-Addo’s Gov’t That Can Fulfill Pledge To Pay Us” – Assembly Members

The Greater Accra Association of Assembly Members believes that the pledge to pay Assembly Members a monthly salary can only be fulfilled by a Government led by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Paying a courtesy call on the President, on Tuesday, 10th November 2020, Mr. Stephen Kwasi Acquah, spokesperson for the Association, indicated that the promise to pay salaries to Assembly Members is a call in the right direction, and is welcome by all Members. “However, in the 2012 and 2016 manifestoes of John Mahama and his NDC, the candidate who is today telling us he will pay us if he wins the 2020 election, the pledge to pay Assembly Members was made in those manifestoes,” the spokesperson said. He continued, “He (John Mahama) reneged on the pledge he made to pay us when we voted for him in 2012, and that is why we did not vote for him again in 2016, even though he had repeated that pledge.” Mr. Stephen Kwasi Acquah, on behalf of the Greater Accra Association, stated that “if there’s someone who we believe can pay Assembly Members on a monthly basis, then it has to be Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.” Outlining the policies implemented by the Akufo-Addo Government from 2017 to date, the spokesperson of the Association indicated that the Free SHS, 1-District-1-Factory, the Nation Builders’ Corps, and the programme for Planting for Food and Jobs have proven to be extremely beneficial for them and the constituents they represented. “Prior to the inception of Free SHS, we would always wake up to knocks on our doors by parents who could not afford to take their wards to school. The implementation of Free SHS has lifted the burden of us. Because of NABCO, no one harasses us for jobs anymore,” he added. Thanking the President for making time to meet with them, Stephen Kwasi Acquah stressed that “we believe that if we support you, and ensure that you get four more years, our circumstances, as Assembly Members, will be better off under your Government.” On his part, President Akufo-Addo told the Members of the Association that “I like very much the commitment that has been made” towards ensuring that there would be no return to power of the NDC. “The atmosphere in the country is good for us. The Ghanaian people are very happy with the work that has been done for them over the course of my first term in office, so help me take the message to every nook and cranny of the country. We cannot afford any complacency. The election is not won until the last vote has been counted, and we have to make sure that everyone who has registered comes out to vote,” President Akufo-Addo added. Splitting of Some centers have created about 5,000 plus centers- Dr. Serebour Quarcoe

The Director of Electoral Service, Dr. Serebour Quarcoe at the Electoral Commission (EC) has disclosed in an interview with Citi News which was monitored by Apexnewsgh.com that the commission wants to reduce the queuing at the polling stations. According to Dr. Quarcoe, the Commission had decided to put the threshold at 749. He said any center that is more than that will be split. “…so, there are some centers that have been split into five. Some are four, three, and two. The splitting has created about 5,000 plus centers. So, there are no new centers. The splitting is around the whole country but mostly in areas that are densely populated,” he stated. However, the newly added polls have seen the number of polling stations ballooned to 38,000 polling stations across the country. Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Commission, Jean Mensa has assured Parliament that her outfit is 95 percent ready for the successful, credible, fair, and peaceful conduct of the election on December 7, 2020. Following the misconception in the public domain that she disrespected the house by not honoring their earlier invitation, Madam Jean Mensa said, It is important to emphasize that this is the first time she has been invited by the House in her capacity as the EC Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, and she has on no occasion turned down an invitation from the Parliament of Ghana.
