Upper East Region Is Food Secured Dont Panic – Minister

Hon Stephen Yakubu, the Upper East Regional Minister has allayed the fears of residents in the Region of any possible food insecurity owing to some challenges in accessing fertilizers by farmers. He said the Regional Department of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) was leasing with its Headquarters to secure enough fertilizers for farmers in the Region and was hopeful that the rainfall pattern this year would help boost crop yields. Hon Yakubu said this when Madam Kati Csaba, the Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana called on him at his office to discuss issues of food security in the Region. The Minister recounted the days when compost manure made of cattle and ruminate droppings was used on farms as fertilizer but noted that due to climate change and reduction in the animal population, chemical fertilizers had taken over in anticipation of higher yields. Even though there may be some challenges in the use of inorganic fertilizers, the Minister urged farmers to reconsider the use of such fertilizers which had long time benefits on crops and farmlands. Hon Yakubu, who is also the Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), assured the High Commissioner of peace and security in the region and said security service personnel were on high alert for any possible terrorist attack. “We are always on high alert to prevent any possible attack in the Region. The government has been providing enough logistics to that effect, and we are constantly reviewing our security plans,” he told the Canadian Commissioner. Dr. Sayibu Pabi Gariba, the Regional Police Commander, said despite the intermittent conflicts in Bawku and between the people of Doba and Kandiga, the security situation in the region was under control. He further assured the High Commissioner and her entourage of maximum security while on their visit, and urged them to go about their duties without fear. The Regional Director of MoFA, Mr. Francis Annor said all 15 Municipalities and District offices of MoFA received pick-up vehicles, 222 motorbikes and computers from the Canadian Government to support them improve on both office and fieldwork. “As northerners, we do things As if poverty was born and brought right into this part of the country —UE-Reg Minister

The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has advised northerners and more especially local government workers in the Upper East Region to improve with their pattern of dressing to work. Apexnewsgh.com report Mr. Yakubu said: “As northerners, we do things as if the whole world is against us. As if poverty was born and brought right into this part of the country. So, when you are working, you should have cloth that you use to go to work with. Most people just wear the same thing to the market, wear the same thing to the office, wear the same thing to sleep, wear the same thing to chess women, wear the same thing to drink pitol. “You need to have…..when you are going to work, let everyone know you are going to work, is important. Don’t think that the degree you have is different from the degree someone has in Accra. “And in fact, when you look at it, you will see that, you are rather saving more money than someone living in Adenta working right inside Accra. Because in the morning he leaves around 5am, taking the same salary as yours and he has to go all the way to work and come back, get home around 9-10pm and the following day he is going. But here, with your motor 5minutes, you are at home, and you spend less and at the same time, you are looking as if you are the one your pay is so scanty. So, we need to change. He advised The Regional Minister made the pronouncement during his tour to inspect government projects in Binduri and Bongo districts on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. Upper East Regional Minister denies any allegation of biased on Bawku conflict

The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has denied the allegation of being biased in handling the Bawku Conflict. Speaking on GBC URA Radio in Bolgatanga monitored by Apexnewsgh.com Mr. Yakubu said politicians, do not remote control the citizens and has thus refuted allegations of political interference in the decisions taken to resolve the Bawku impasse According to him, all the decisions taken by the Regional Security Council REGSEC in consultation with the Ministry of Interior are in the best interest of the good people of the Region. While calling for unity from the various ethnic and political groupings in the Region, Mr. Yakubu further reiterated his zeal to pursue all-inclusive administration for the development of the region. Meanwhile, an Accra High Court has granted bail to the 13 suspects allegedly involved in the Bawku Chieftaincy disturbances which led to the loss of lives and the destruction of property. The 13 were granted bail to the tune of 20,000 cedis each with one surety. The decision comes after several attempts by lawyers for the accused to be granted bail by the Circuit Court. The suspects have been charged with unlawful assembly with offensive weapons and offensive conduct to the breach of peace. All 13 however pleaded not guilty to these charges. They are expected to reappear before the court on February 12, 2022. The 12 suspects were arrested following a renewed chieftaincy clash in Bawku last Monday, January 3, 2022, which led to the loss of lives and the destruction of property. The court had earlier refused to grant the 13 suspects bail. There was serious disagreement at Circuit Court 4 in Accra on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, as lawyers clashed over a bail application for the 13 accused persons. The accused persons, according to the Prosecution, had violated a curfew in Bawku, and a restraining order, to perform the funeral rites of a chief who died almost 40 years ago, and at the same time to enskin a new chief for an area that already has a chief. Leading the prosecution, Vivian Osei Tutu of the Attorney General’s department said there will be chaos and anarchy in Bawku if the 13 accused persons are granted bail. She said that the security situation in Bawku was already volatile and that granting the 13 accused persons bail would only heighten the already precarious situation. The lawyer for the accused persons, Martin Kpebu, however, disagreed with the facts as asserted by the Prosecution. He described the accused persons as responsible and respectable people, some sub-chiefs with hundreds of thousands of subjects under them. According to Mr. Kpebu, the accused persons had not enskinned a new chief, nor did they cause any chaos or anarchy in Bawku. Apexnewsgh.com report According to Regional Minister: “For us in Ghana, this Christmas should mean a lot to us. We are not only grateful for the birth of Christ but also offering thanks for the conduct of peaceful co-existence among ourselves. We may have had varying expectations about what we want from God, but our ultimate desire should be to see a stable and unified nation by the grace of God, we have crossed the period of certain anxiety and looking up to a prosperous future ahead”. However, he also admonished Christians to be mindful of HIV and AIDS for the prevalence rate in some parts of the region is very high. Below is the full statement: CHRISTMAS MESSAGE BY UPPER EAST REGIONAL MINISTER, HON. STEPHEN YAKUBU- DECEMBER, 2021 The world and Christians in particular await the birth of Jesus Christ, the savior of the world on Saturday 25th December, 2021. The day is very significant as it reassures humanity of God’s unflinching love. Out of this love, God offered to become man in all things but sin, in order to draw the universe towards salvation. Our response at Christmas is definitely one of gratitude and thanksgiving for the gratuitous love of God. We rejoice and are glad for the sheer humility of God in becoming man for our sake. We take respite in the fact that the new born will show us the way back to salvation and make the world a better place. For us in Ghana, this Christmas should mean a lot to us. We are not only grateful for the birth of Christ but also offering thanks for the conduct of peaceful co-existence among ourselves. We may have had varying expectations about what we want from God, but our ultimate desire should be to see a stable and unified nation by the grace of God, we have crossed the period of certain anxiety and looking up to a prosperous future ahead. I should therefore be justified to call on all people of the region to share in the joy of the season by being grateful to God for his infinite love and blessings on our country Ghana. Let’s together fight for peace and avoid tribal, land, religious and chieftaincy conflicts. I ask of all religious leaders to commit Ghana in their prayers and supplications during this festive season. Let us be mindful of the HIV and AIDS for the prevalence rate in some part of the region is very high. Once the government has procured vaccines for the country let us all get vaccinated and continue to observe the safety protocols of the Covid-19. Merry Christmas to all people of the Upper East Region.
