UER: MMDCEs that cannot deliver will have a lot of problem with me–UE-Regional Minister

The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has pointed that, MMDCs who could not perform well at their various constituencies in the region after the President’s appointment, will have a lot of problems with him because his expectation for development in the region is high. Mr. Yakubu made the pronouncement during a One-on-One exclusive interview with Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen at his residence. “My expectation is that we will get MMDCEs who will not come and fight party people or not come and fight for people to not vote for the party. But, really on a serious note, I think that my main focus in this region is to develop the region. So, we are looking at people who have a huge capacity, is not just about the politics of it, but is about the capacity to be able to develop the constituency. You know the DCEs are the implementers, they are actually at the base and whatever thing I want to do, they are the people that need to do it. So, we are looking at people with the high-quality capacity to be able to deliver. Because, if the people that cannot deliver, they will have a lot of problem with me. I am not saying that those who were there were not delivering but, my expectation is very high and anybody who is coming will have to fit into the stature for us to develop”. According to the Regional Minister, even though it isn’t his sole responsibility to appoint the MMDCEs, he is well convinced that the President will be very mindful that in his second term they need to deliver to the people of the Upper East Region. “So, am not the one who is going to be giving the post, it is the President who is going to do that and am sure the President is very mindful that in his second term we need to deliver to the people of Upper East and the country as a whole. Apexnewsgh.com report Mr. Yakubu who confessed on Saturday, June 19, 2021, during a One on One exclusive interview with Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com at his residence, also believes that what contributed to the past insecurity in the region was as a result of the busy nature attached to his predecessor Tangoba Abayage during the election year. According to him, his predecessor was busy organizing the elections whiles people took the advantage to snatched away motorbikes and engaged in a lot of armed robbery in the system. However, he is confident that with lots of Strategies put in place coupled with the presence of the current Regional Police Commander Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Dr. Sayibu Pabi Gariba in the region, issues such as motorbike snatching and armed robbery have reduced. “ Before I even come to this region, it was like the security situation was not very good. After the elections, the previous minister was very busy organizing the election and all that, therefore people probably took the advantage of that and also doing their own thing. People motorbikes were snatched away, a lot of armed robbery in the system and all that. I can tell you and you can also testify that all those things have really come down because, we have a new regional Police Commander who is up to the job and we have put a lot of strategies in place and so far, Bolga is a cool place, Bolga is a place everyone wants to come”. He explained Meanwhile, responding to the threats by bandits from Burkina Faso to attack Bolga and Tamale, the Minister asked citizens not to panic because the securities are on top of their job. He further pleaded with citizens to provide the security with good information that will assist them to do their job accordingly. So far, the current security issue is the problem of people moving from Burkina Faso coming to attack Ghana through this our region and most of the stations have assured Ghanaians and Upper Easterners that we are actually in control of the region. As you work here, you know that the region is very safe because we have a lot of securities. We have the military men, we have the policemen and we are securing our borders by making sure that no one comes in, no one goes out illegally. We are also appealing to citizens which have been doing so for the past weeks for them to actually continue to help us with information so that we can apprehend anyone at all who is suspicious in the region. We are doing this not because we want to know what you are doing but also for your safety too and the safety of the people of the Upper East Region. That will be able to give us the lead to be able to track people who come illegally. On security issues, I can tell you that we are on high alert. Mr. Yakubu said. Paramount Chief of Chiana Traditional Area Unhappy With his District Demarcation

The Paramount Chief of the Chiana traditional area who doubles as the current president of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, Naba Ditundini Adiali Thomas-More has expressed frustration over the demarcation of his district. Naba Ditundini Adiali Thomas-More, raised the issue when the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu paid him a courtesy visit to his palace “In the event where there is going to be demarcation in the region, it is the only side of the region that is not properly demarcated. You will all appreciate the fact that we need to be connected to the rest of towns within, constructing a road from Kayoro, Bindaa then to Paga, well and good perfect, no argument about it, we all love it. We have a market in Chiana where our sisters who speak Kassem cross a certain river the Bindaa, Gbanu, and other areas doing business with us. According to the Paramount Chief, if someone is seriously sick in any of the communities under Chiana electoral area, they will never refer that patient to Paga hospital. “We will never refer that person to the Paga hospital, never we will dream that we want to refer a patient from this enclave to Paga, we will never do that. The nearby community to us is Sandema. If Sandema doesn’t have the necessary facility to carter for that person, we go to Navrongo then, Bolga to Tamale which is our teaching hospital. He said the situation affects all of them because their brothers and sisters who want to come to Chiana have similar problems. “Our brothers and sisters who are in sirigu, mirigu, kandiga are facing a similar problem. Look at Yua, in the middle of Kassena Nankana West doing business with Navrongo Municipal Assemble, very awkward. Look at the current problem we are facing, I have been stopped there severally going to sirigu, the Doba/ Kandiga issue, if we have taken the time and demarcate this place properly… You see the demarcation doesn’t affect the traditional and cultural practices. Let’s do something so that we can be happy as a region”. He blamed the kind of politics played in the Region, which in most cases always denied the people of Upper East what is due them as development. Consider development first before politics, Stephen Yakubu to the people of Upper East

The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has appealed to the people of the Region to consider development ahead of politics. The Regional Minister made the appeal during a visit to the Paramount Chief of the Chiana Traditional Area, Pe Dituudini Adiana Ayagitam III who doubles as the President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs. According to Minister Yakubu, the kind of politics played with serious developmental issues by the people of the region have deeply caused the region to undeveloped. He further appeals to the people of the region especially members of the governing NPP and the opposition NDC, to consider playing politics only during the political season, stressing that the after general elections, the region should put all their focus on the developmental issues for growth. He also acknowledges the role of chiefs when it comes to development in the country, as he described the institution of chieftaincy as very important and key to the development of the country. However, addressing the Paramount chief of Chana traditional area, Pe Dituudini Adiana Ayagitam III the Regional Minister described him as a man with the same vision with him. “I want you to know that, is not the usual going round of Regional Ministers introducing themselves to chiefs. I want it to be that the chiefs are on a very unique path in our development process. The Institution of Chieftaincy is very important and key to the development of this our country and as you partner with the executive, we can do whatever the people want us to do in terms of development and today am particularly happy because you and I share the same vision”. “The vision is to change things, to look like the way things are there in U.K, for your people to have a better life, for your people to have jobs, for your people to be able to go to school, for your people to get good drinking water, for your people to drive on a nice road and for your people to have good food to eat and live long”. “Today, I want to partner with you for us to do the same to the entire region and you are very key because you are the President of the Upper East house of Chiefs. Therefore, you and your chiefs and with me from the executive can come together to change Upper East. And I don’t just go talking about the change, I don’t just go about drumming this vision that cannot be achieved. Those vision that cannot be achieved, they are not vision. I am a very practical person and I know this vision and goal will be achieved. But what is clear in my mind is that i cannot achieve these goals alone, you cannot achieve it alone but together, we will be able to achieve these goals”. “When you are in someone’s land, no matter your education, no matter your smartness, no matter your handsomeness, nobody sees that, and sometimes, it can be very intimidating. So, we have seen young people, we have seen smart people outside Ghana thinking that I must go back and also develop my place and also to live in this development and I think, that is the vision we have discussed together and this is the time because he is the President of the Upper East House of Chiefs and I am the Regional Minister”. “People are talking about Airport and I know Airport is coming. We are one of the regions in this country that, we are going to have 4 good big irrigation projects. We have Tono, we have VEA, we have Tamne dam around the Kusasi area and now we are going to have Pwalungu Multi-Purpose dam. So, with these 4 big irrigation projects, we should be able to feed ourselves and feed the nation and export and that will make us richer. So, I urge everybody in the region to take advantage of these projects that are coming up for us to make ourselves better. Is going to create a lot of jobs for our youth who will always tell you ‘we are going to Kumasi’. We want to make this region our Kumasi, we want to make this region so that people can also come in here and look for jobs, we have the natural resources we have gold, we have the timber now rosewood, we have the big rivers BLACK VOLTA and WHITE VOLTA”. The Regional Minister said during his speech. The Paramount Chief of the Chiana Traditional Area, Pe Dituudini Adiana Ayagitam III who doubles as the President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs has endorsed the vision outline by the Upper East Regional Minister during the visit to his palace. According to him, “if we are able to recover the resources we have in the region, there will be a good job for the youth in the region and with that, they won’t be able to travel outside the region to Kumasi for mini-jobs. He used the opportunity to appeal to the regional minister to assist the people of Chana by way of fixing their deplorable road, which according to him happens to be one of their serious problems in the area. He congratulated the Upper East Regional Minister for his new enviable role, as he promised that they as fathers in the will make sure they live a good legacy behind.
