The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has revealed, that the party removed the Fumbisi Rice Factory from the President’s itinerary because it wasn’t part of government One District One Factory. Apexnewsgh.com report Mr. Yakubu made the revelation during an exclusive interview with Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com on Sunday, August 7, 2022. A few days before President Akufo-Addo’s arrival in the region, a lot of interviews were granted to some members of the governing New Patriotic (NPP) on various local radio stations, print and online media in the region to ascertain plans and where the president will be going and the role he will be performing at the programme venue. Then, in their individual responses, Fumbisi Rice Factory, Commissioning of Tono expansion water project, and Visit Bolga East Kantaga Agenda 111 were all mentioned by party executives who were creating awareness ahead of the President’s coming. In fact, at one of the radio stations, the issue of the Fumbisi Rice factory became a tough debate between the NPP representative and the Opposition NDC representative. The NDC was of the view that the Fumbisi Rice Factory has nothing to do with the 1D1F policy initiative, whiles the NPP representative claimed strongly that the Rice project is part of 1D1F. However, barely a day after the President’s Visit to the region, the Fumbisi Rice Factory was removed from the original itinerary plan for the president tour. That has raised some kind of questions, especially from members of the opposition NDC who are still asking questions upon questions about why the President could not visit the Fumbisi Rice Factory as planned. Meanwhile, when Apexnewsgh.com engaged the Regional Minister for some clarification on the numerous questions asked, he said “Initially we thought that it was part of the One District One Factory though. I think they are working on it, they are not fully part of the 1D1F. Therefore, we didn’t want to go and commission a private person’s factory”. Reg. Minister told Apexnewsgh.com He confirmed, “The factory came up because President went there in 2018, went to the Fumbisi area and a lot of people there and saw the rice farm and that actually brought a lot of investors there and therefore, is as a result of that this has come up”. Meanwhile, when Apexnewsgh.com contacted the Builsa South District Chief Executive (DCE) Daniel Kwame Gariba, he claimed the owner of the factory was the one who requested that the President should come for the Rice Factory commissioning. “As northerners, we do things As if poverty was born and brought right into this part of the country —UE-Reg Minister
The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has advised northerners and more especially local government workers in the Upper East Region to improve with their pattern of dressing to work. Apexnewsgh.com report Mr. Yakubu said: “As northerners, we do things as if the whole world is against us. As if poverty was born and brought right into this part of the country. So, when you are working, you should have cloth that you use to go to work with. Most people just wear the same thing to the market, wear the same thing to the office, wear the same thing to sleep, wear the same thing to chess women, wear the same thing to drink pitol. “You need to have…..when you are going to work, let everyone know you are going to work, is important. Don’t think that the degree you have is different from the degree someone has in Accra. “And in fact, when you look at it, you will see that, you are rather saving more money than someone living in Adenta working right inside Accra. Because in the morning he leaves around 5am, taking the same salary as yours and he has to go all the way to work and come back, get home around 9-10pm and the following day he is going. But here, with your motor 5minutes, you are at home, and you spend less and at the same time, you are looking as if you are the one your pay is so scanty. So, we need to change. He advised The Regional Minister made the pronouncement during his tour to inspect government projects in Binduri and Bongo districts on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. UER: The sorry state of football infrastructure of the upper east region, a good sign of leadership incompetence
In the Upper Region, one of the key social amenities you cannot see as a region like any other region in the country is a functional regional sports stadium for sporting activities and only a few in the region are worried about such sorry development. A Development Economist with the University for Development Studies (UDS) and CEO of Kasaligu Arrow Heads FC Dr. Michael Ayamga-Adongo on his Facebook wall on Sunday, January 23, 2022, said when he passed through the Bolgatanga Stadium which is supposed to be a regional stadium, “The stadium is in a terrible shape. You would rather hunt grass cutter there than play football”. He added: “To put it in perspective, the regional capital does not have a pitch good enough for division one games. The least said about training pitches the better. Teams from the region have to travel to other regions to play their home games”. However, he called on Northern Development Authority, Regional and M/DCEs and MPs in the region to see the sports stadium as a development issue. Below is his full Facebook post: THE SORRY STATE OF FOOTBALL INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE UPPER EAST REGION I passed by the Bolgatanga Stadium yesterday. It reminded me of my last goal for my team soccer missionaries (now Zuarung FC) in the Milo games. The stadium is in a terrible shape. You would rather hunt grass cutter there than play football. To put it in perspective, the regional capital does not have a pitch good enough for division one games. The least said about training pitches the better. Teams from the region have to travel to other regions to play their home games. The Astro Turf under the zongo project is less than a standard pitch and cannot be used for Association football. How and why we spend millions to construct such a pitch beats my imagination. We are all complaining about the black stars’ embarrassing outing at AFCON. Well, those are our chickens coming home to roost. A country willing to spend $25 million to prepare for a tournament and almost zero on player development infrastructure is even lucky to qualify for the tournament in the first place. TROPHIES ARE WON AT TRAINING NOT AT TOURNAMENTS. Comoros defeated Ghana because they put money in football development. Years ago, we played and strived so we could get the opportunity to meet the President. Today, the President has become an agent calling and begging players with Ghanaian last names to play for Ghana. Coaches used to travel round Ghana to discover talents. Now we employ coaches who read websites to select players. We used to export the best players. Now we Import rejected players. Back to the Upper East. Unlike other regions, the water table in the upper East is relatively good and stable. With mechanized boreholes we can develop and maintain good training pitches. The northern development authority ought to see this lack of a standard pitch and training facilities for football as a development issue. The regional Minister, M/DCEs MPs etc ought to see this as a development issue. Football is widely seen by many as an alternative livelihood and career path. True. The other side of the coin is that, football contributes significantly to school dropout. As a club owner, I have come across thousands of young boys and girls who left the region to join clubs and football academies in the south and by that truncated their education. Many did not make it in football and have become part of the growing unemployment problem. Developing football infrastructure means expanding education alternatives. It is not just a game. Upper East Regional Minister wishes Christians a Merry Christmas
The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has extended a Christmas message to Christians across the region. Apexnewsgh.com report According to Regional Minister: “For us in Ghana, this Christmas should mean a lot to us. We are not only grateful for the birth of Christ but also offering thanks for the conduct of peaceful co-existence among ourselves. We may have had varying expectations about what we want from God, but our ultimate desire should be to see a stable and unified nation by the grace of God, we have crossed the period of certain anxiety and looking up to a prosperous future ahead”. However, he also admonished Christians to be mindful of HIV and AIDS for the prevalence rate in some parts of the region is very high. Below is the full statement: CHRISTMAS MESSAGE BY UPPER EAST REGIONAL MINISTER, HON. STEPHEN YAKUBU- DECEMBER, 2021 The world and Christians in particular await the birth of Jesus Christ, the savior of the world on Saturday 25th December, 2021. The day is very significant as it reassures humanity of God’s unflinching love. Out of this love, God offered to become man in all things but sin, in order to draw the universe towards salvation. Our response at Christmas is definitely one of gratitude and thanksgiving for the gratuitous love of God. We rejoice and are glad for the sheer humility of God in becoming man for our sake. We take respite in the fact that the new born will show us the way back to salvation and make the world a better place. For us in Ghana, this Christmas should mean a lot to us. We are not only grateful for the birth of Christ but also offering thanks for the conduct of peaceful co-existence among ourselves. We may have had varying expectations about what we want from God, but our ultimate desire should be to see a stable and unified nation by the grace of God, we have crossed the period of certain anxiety and looking up to a prosperous future ahead. I should therefore be justified to call on all people of the region to share in the joy of the season by being grateful to God for his infinite love and blessings on our country Ghana. Let’s together fight for peace and avoid tribal, land, religious and chieftaincy conflicts. I ask of all religious leaders to commit Ghana in their prayers and supplications during this festive season. Let us be mindful of the HIV and AIDS for the prevalence rate in some part of the region is very high. Once the government has procured vaccines for the country let us all get vaccinated and continue to observe the safety protocols of the Covid-19. Merry Christmas to all people of the Upper East Region.
