First Dogs Champ and Major Move Into White House

THE TWO NEWEST residents of the White House have moved in – the Bidens’ German shepherds arrived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on Sunday. Champ and Major, the first shelter dog to ever live in the White House, joined President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden over the weekend. .First lady Jill Biden’s press secretary Michael LaRosa told CNN that the first family wanted to settle into their new residence before bringing the dogs from Delaware. “Champ is enjoying his new dog bed by the fireplace, and Major loved running around on the South Lawn,” LaRosa said. Champ has been a member of the Biden family since December 2008 and Major was adopted in November 2018 from the Delaware Humane Association after they fostered the dog. The arrival of Champ and Major marks a return to a long tradition of dogs in the White House, which stopped with the Trump family, which did not have any pets. The Bidens’ dog may not be the only animals wandering the White House. The first lady has previously expressed interest in adopting a cat. In a video on Twitter responding to the public’s questions, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Sunday that she is “also wondering about the cat.” “I’m also wondering about the cat because the cat is going to dominate the internet whenever the cat is announced and wherever that cat is found,” Psaki said. Election Petition: Mahama moves to amend his application for review of ruling on interrogatories

The petitioner in the 2020 election petition, John Dramani Mahama has filed yet another application at the Supreme Court to review his application for review of the Court’s decision on interrogatories, replace portions of his original statement of case, as well as file a supplement to his statement of case. Signed by his lawyers and deposed to by himself, Mr. Mahama says the Court will be provided further information if his application is granted. The new application seeks to replace paragraph 28 of the original statement of case and file a supplement to the statement of case. Paragraph 28 of the petitioners’ initial review document states among others that “there is no reference in rule 69(c) 4 of CI 99 to amendments. It is rather 69 A (6) which provides as follows.” In the proposed new paragraph “it is rather” quotes 68(7) instead of the 69A(6) as earlier quoted. Mr. Mahama also says the Electoral Commission and President Akufo-Addo will not be prejudiced in any way if his application is granted. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for President Akufo-Addo’s legal team in the ongoing election petition hearing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says their side is disappointed at a new motion of notice filed by the petitioner, John Dramani Mahama. He said Nana Akufo-Addo is not surprised about the turn of events as it knows that Mr. Mahama only want to unduly delay the petition hearing. “The court has given Tuesday to complete pre-trial and then give the necessary orders to start the hearing. We are already behind schedule but this afternoon, we were informed that the lawyers of Mr. Mahama have filed a new process aimed at amending some of their previous processes, and we have been served accordingly,” he said. There is a possibility of lockdown, if this trend continues–Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah the Information Minister-designate, has said that if the Coronavirus infection in Ghana continues, the President is likely to lockdown the country for better. Ghana has recorded over 3,280 active cases of the coronavirus as of Monday, January 25, according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the death toll is now 367. Meanwhile, the country has recorded a total of 60,794 cases with 57,141 recoveries and discharges. Addressing the media on Monday, January 25, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said “There is a possibility of a lockdown and other restrictions. If this trend continues, then yes that is where we are heading. “I have to be very clear on that one that more restrictions could be introduced if this trend continues. We are being reminded that we all need to be doing the things we were doing, in the beginning, to ensure that this third rise is quickly dealt with because the dynamics of this third rise appear to be different from the first one. “So especially if these numbers go up this way then just like the President himself articulated, then we are heading for more restrictions even if it means reviewing some Legal Instruments, yes that is where we will be heading.” He said Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Chelsea sack Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard has been sacked by Chelsea on Monday following a dismal slump in form that sees them sit ninth in the Premier League table. The players were told not to come to the training ground until Monday afternoon as Lampard becomes the 10th manager sacked during the Roman Abramovich era. Confirmation of his sacking came just before 11.30am on Monday after the club took decisive action following a torrid run of five losses in eight league games. Sunday’s win over Luton Town to advance to the fifth round of the FA Cup hasn’t proved enough to save the former midfielder from the chop. The former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel is in prime position to replace Lampard with talks at an advanced stage. It will mean another pay-off for owner Abramovich with Lampard earning £4million a year.  His contract ran until 2022. The club statement confirming the sacking read: ‘This has been a very difficult decision, and not one that the owner and the Board have taken lightly. ‘We are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved in his time as Head Coach of the Club. ‘However, recent results and performances have not met the Club’s expectations, leaving the Club mid-table without any clear path to sustained improvement. ‘There can never be a good time to part ways with a club legend such as Frank, but after lengthy deliberation and consideration it was decided a change is needed now to give the Club time to improve performances and results this season.’ Abramovich said: ‘This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him’. ‘He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers. ‘On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future. ‘He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.’ A dreadful run of league form has seen the Blues lose five of their last eight Premier League matches, leaving them well out of the title picture. The slump in form led to mounting pressure on Stamford Bridge favourite Lampard. It came after Lampard said the win over Luton on Sunday would ‘bring a nice air of positivity’ to the club. He said: ‘People will look very close at the moment but I need to see a bigger picture. This was an important result because it brings a nice air of positivity to the club. We want to win more points in league. That’s where we are at. ‘It’s nice for us in the short term, the scrutiny on a club like this is normal. When you’re off it slightly the only focus should only be on changing the form. We just go again.’ Talks with Tuchel, who is a free agent following his sacking at PSG in late December, are underway with the German emerging as a prime contender to replace Lampard. RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann has admirers in the Blues boardroom, but there are concerns over whether he would leave his current employers mid-season. That would pave the way for Tuchel to be appointed now and he could be in charge for their home game against Wolves on Wednesday night. Chelsea have been warned off Tuchel, 47, in the past after run-ins with previous employers Borussia Dortmund and PSG but that doesn’t seem to be a factor now. Lampard was only 18 months into his time as Chelsea manager. He steered them to a fourth placed finish last season and also to the final of the FA Cup. But despite massive investment of £222million in new players, they have been unable to mount a challenge at the top of the table. The current seasons started promisingly enough, with Chelsea embarking on a 14-match unbeaten run through the autumn and making serene progress through their Champions League group. V/R: MMDCEs declare support for regional minister-designate Letsa

Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Volta Region are calling on disgruntled party folks within the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Region to rescind their plans to stage protests against the re-nomination of Dr Archibald Letsa as the Volta Regional Minister. In a press release issued signed by Edmund Kudjoe Attah, the outgoing DCE for North Dayi and the Dean of MMDCEs in Volta, the Chief Executives expressed their confidence in Dr Letsa’s re-appointment by the President and called for dialogue to address the concerns of the aggrieved members. The statement also described Dr. Archibald Letsa as hardworking, whose tenure saw effective running of government’s business in the region. “It must be stated that the Hon Dr Archibald Letsa has and will remain a party steward of many years standing who has worked diligently and won the admiration of many people from all works of life in the region and even out of the region. Under his leadership, we have witnessed massive developmental projects across all districts of the region,” the statement read. Dr. Letsa’s re-nomination by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been met with stiff resistance from some party folks who have began a street protest in Ho this morning to demand from the President to reconsider his decision. But the MMDCEs believe such appointments remain the ultimate decision of the President and called on the disgruntled members to reach out to the party leadership in the region for an amicable resolution. “The appointment of the Regional Minister is the preserve of His Excellency the President and must be supported by all. It takes a lot of considerations for a President to nominate a person to represent him and that process is tedious and time-consuming.” Starrfm Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. AfCFTA: Construction Chamber advocates for reduction of lending rate

The Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry has joined calls for a relook at the lending rate in the country especially with the commencement of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement. The Construction Chamber argues that the rate puts its members at a disadvantage amongst other African countries with access to cheaper credit. In an interview with Citi Business News, President of the Construction Chamber, Emmanuel Cherry, said addressing this challenge is pivotal in making Ghanaian businesses competitive in AfCFTA. “We are pleading with a government that it should come and have a second look at the financial sector for us so that the interest can at least be relooked at. The Bank of Ghana should come and see how best they can at least upgrade the policy rate. There is a lot of work that has to be done there. Most of our things are from the manufacturing sector and the sector is also borrowing with high-interest rate from the market and the competitors are coming with the same goods. We may abandon them and go for the cheaper ones because we also want to make a profit. So at the end of the day,  you see that they will come  into the country and  beat us to poor with will not inure to the benefit of the economy of the country.” With its headquarters situated in the capital Accra, it is an agreement amongst 54 African countries, that seeks to progressively reduce and eventually eliminate customs duties and non-tariff barriers on goods and allow the free provision of services in priority sectors. Concerning trade in goods, the goal is set for 90% of products at zero duty across the continent. Other stakeholders like the Ghana Union of Traders Association and the Association of Ghana Industries had earlier expressed similar concerns about the current lending rate in the country. They also called on the government to take steps to significantly reduce the rate to enable them to be more competitive in the region.
