Covid-19: Bawku Naba renews ban on funerals, social gatherings
The Paramount Chief of Kusaug Traditional Area and President of the Kusaug Traditional Council, Zugraan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II has renewed the ban on funerals, weddings, spinnings and other social gatherings in line with government’s covid-19 restrictions. He said the renewed ban is to efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country. The overload of the Kusasi Kingdom announced in a press statement read on his behalf at his palace in Bawku in the Upper East Region. He pledges to ensure measures put in place to stop the spread of the coronavirus are adhered to. According to him, the people under his jurisdiction are vulnerable since they share boundaries with North East region at the foothills of Gambaga scape near Garu District to the Red Volta at Nabdam District, Togo and Burkina Faso. Naba Azoka indicated that dry season is often for funerals in the north and other celebrations. “But we are not in normal times and we must adhere strictly to the President’s order.” He indicates that sacrifices have been made to the gods for protection against the virus in the area and would not be happy if one dies of the virus. He charged his Divisional Chiefs in the Kusaug Traditional area to spread the message in their respective communities and deal with anyone who flouts the directive. Naba Azoka also appealed to the security agencies within his jurisdiction to assist the various Municipal and District Assemblies to enforce the ban until further notice. The Nabdam Youth Organizer for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Lawrence Agengre who is said to have suspended by the party for diverting campaign resources has told Apexnewsgh.com that his suspension is calculated move by some individuals within the party to paint him black. According to Mr. Lawrence, the money he was accused of diverting was not given to him directly, it was given to the campaign team by the regional chairman for the house to house campaign but, because they want him removed from the executive, they don’t know what to do. So, they want to use that one as a base. He said “The regional chairman gave the money to a campaign team and not that of Lawrence but because they want to take me off, they have no option, they don’t know what to do. According to the embattled Constituency Organizer, when a section of the executives realized that the allegation was false, they wrote a withdrawal letter to the Regional Secretariat withdrawing such petition. UER: School closed down in Tampane after effect of COVID-19
Notre Dame educational complex in Basyonde a private school in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region has been closed down after the return from coronavirus break. This was confirmed to Apexnewsgh.com by Asaana Apali the Acting Proprietor of the school when he was called upon. According to the Proprietor, even though their school population wasn’t that huge, they were in their numbers before the COVID-19 closure of schools across the country, but unfortunately when the ban for closure of school was lifted by government, the teachers were no where to be found and with that, management of the school said, the better option was to close the school. “Before the coronavirus, we had the first batch and they wrote and their results were good but, even though we were not having much population but we were more than hundred (100) but after the coronavirus, all the teachers left. So, when we re-opened school, some of the children also left and those who came were not even up to Ten (10). So, we were expecting that by the second week, they will come back and we see what to do but the second week, none of them were there. So, we have no other option than to close the school”. ‘EC sacked me from the strong room’– Mettle-Nunoo told Supreme Court
Rojo Mettle-Nunoo the third witness for the petitioner in the ongoing election petition hearing, has informed the Supreme Court (SC) that he was sacked by the EC from the strong room. Mettle-Nunoo who was undergoing a cross examination in the ongoing election petition on Monday February 8, 2021 in response to questions put by the EC’s lawyer, said that he had left the strong room twice during his stay at the premises. Meanwhile, Mr. Nunoo did not reveal the official of EC who sacked him out of the strongroom. “The first time I left the strong room was when the EC sacked me from the strong room. That was the first time I left the room. The EC sacked me from the strong room. It has never happened before. In previous elections I stayed there for 72 hours.“I left the strongroom the second time to seek audience with the electoral commissioner. Kwesi Pratt Jnr described President ban on funeral as “no common sense”
The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper Kwesi Pratt Jnr has said, President directive on private funerals with a maximum of 25 mourners does not make any common sense. The Bolgatanga Central Polyclinic has gradually become a ghetto for wee smokers, a depot for faeces and a harbor for arm robbers and residents leaving in the area fear for their lives. An initiative that started in the early 70s during the government of the late Gen. Kutu Acheampong has since not received any attention from the people of Bolgatanga of the Upper East Region. Upper East Region has a history of playing politics with developmental projects that will mostly benefit the region. Unlike other regions and a typical example is Upper West Region. It will interest you the reader to know that, whiles other regions are getting Airports, Upper East Region is still battling where an Airstrip will be cited, even when their son Mr. Kofi Adda was in charge of the Aviation Ministry in the first term of President Akufo Addo’s administration and yet, Upper West Region has gotten its share of the Airport with ease. As I write, Upper East cannot boost a standard stadium as a region at the moment, and yet, in every government, whether NPP or NDC they have representatives on behalf of the region serving actively in government. But the question is, are these appointees of government serving their purpose to those they represent or they only consider their family interest? If the Pawlungu Tomato factory which is located in the Upper East Region were to be in Upper West by now, the Tomato factory will be seen actively working for the benefit of its people. I don’t want to talk about the meat factory too, that will be a story on another day. No wonder, when I spoke to a very prominent and sincere politician name ‘withheld’ from the Region, he frankly told me, he is ashamed himself coming from this part of the country where they politicize every development.
