Tempane: DCE handed 20 acre of plot to contractor for the construction of District Hospital
Construction of Tempane District Hospital is about to kick start any time soon, this is because a 20-acre plot of land has been handed over to Chalpang Construction Limited by the District Chief Executive Issaka Anabida to start construction. Tempane is one of the lucky districts in the Upper East Region to be part of the government’s agenda 111 as captured in the manifesto of the governing New Patriotic Party during the 2020 electioneering campaign. The idea to construct One Hundred and Eleven (111) District and special Hospitals across the country to mainly districts without a district hospital for proper health care services. Speaking during the handing over ceremony, Mr. Anabida the DCE expressed excitement for such a wonderful initiative by President Nana Akufo-Addo and NPP. He said, the district hospital if complete will address the health situation in the district. He urged the contractor in charge of the district hospital project to speed up the project on time. Meanwhile, the chief and people of Tempane who were present at the handing over ceremony expressed their appreciation to the government for considering the District in the region. The contractor Chalpang Construction Limited assured the DCE, Chief and elders of Tempane District that the project will be ready within a stipulated time because they are already behind time. GRA scraps ‘benchmark values’ on 32 items effective Monday
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced that the implementation of the removal of benchmark values on some 32 categories of items, will begin from Monday, 15 November 2021. A letter written to Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to that effect dated 11 November 2021 and signed by Commissioner-General Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, said: “We write to inform you that following discussions on various fora, it has been agreed that discount on some commodities currently being enjoyed should be reversed to achieve revenue effect”. The items include sugar, (pasta, spaghetti, noodles, macaroni), palm oil – crude and refined oils, aluminium finished products (roofing sheets), toilet paper, facial tissue and towel, chocolate, portland cement, clinker etc., and mosquito coil. The others are vehicles, ceramic tiles, aluminium products, cartons, boxes of paper, paperboard cases of corrugated paper, machete, water, soft (including mineral and aerated with sugar (including sweetened)), plastic – chapter 39, tile cement, textiles and textile articles, iron steel bars, rolls forged and structures, fruit juices, tomato paste & ketchup, cement paper bags, furniture and parts. The rest are toilet soap, laundry bar soap, detergents – washing powder, lubricating oil, alcoholic beverages, soft drinks and carbonated drinks, flexible packing materials, biscuits/wafers, cigarettes, pharmaceuticals, machinery and equipment, plant. 250 journalists to be sponsored for training annually
Two hundred and fifty selected journalists are set to benefit from a Media Capacity Enhancement Programme (MCEP) annually paid for by the Ministry of Information. The Ministry of Information which announced this at the launch of the programme in Accra on Sunday November 14, 2021, said the programme is expected to provide continuous in-service training for media personnel drawn from across the country in order to improve their skills for the industry. “The role of the Ministry is simply to provide bursaries to participant from the media landscape who will benefit from this capacity enhancement programme annually. Under the programme, a skills gap analysis has been conducted by a working committee of experts and a curriculum based on gaps has been developed. The independent committee has also selected a faculty comprising academics and senior media practitioners from across the country, to administer the program.” Deputy Information Minister Fatima Abubakr who led a press briefing to launch the program said the programme is in line with one of the key strategic objectives of the Ministry which is to assist in the development of the information sector for which reason a successful implementation of the programme is expected to transform Ghana’s media landscape. Present at the launch were the heads of the implementation partner organisations of the programme including the Rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), Prof. Kwamena-Kwansa Aidoo, Chairman of the National Media Commission, Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh and the President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Roland Affail Monney as well as members from media umbrella bodies such as the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and the Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG). For his part, Prof. Aidoo who is also the Chairman of the committee tasked to provide support for the full implementation of the programme was excited about the rolling out of the programme. He said the programme will help equip journalists in the country with the right skill set to be able to go about their jobs. Mr. Monney also indicated that the programme could not come at a better time than this. He encouraged journalists to take advantage of it and gain the requisite skills in journalism and media practice. The MCEP will provide continuous on the job training at regular intervals for media practitioners to improve their skills, support training targeted at content creation for media practitioners, provide a regular platform to support media-introspection on subject related to media management, corporate governance, and media business models and encourage ethical journalism.
