NDC Communicator who allegedly defrauded O.A boss with Mahama’s name arrested
Police in the Ashanti Region has confirmed the arrest of one Gabriel Aga, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications team in Kumasi. The suspect was arrested over the weekend at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi during the Akwasidae Festival celebration in an alleged attempt to defraud the Chief Executive Officer of O.A Transport, Opoku Agyemang. Narrating the incident, Starr News source said the suspect had already taken Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc50,000.00) and wanted an additional One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedies (Ghc100,000.00) from the O.A CEO. The suspect had informed the businessman on phone that he was former President John Mahama and needed some cash for medical care abroad. The businessman released the money to the suspect because he said former President Mahama sent him for the cash on his behalf. After the money was released, he never heard from the suspect again. Months later, he received a call again from the suspect pretending he is former President and requested an additional one hundred thousand Ghana cedis. According to O.A boss, the suspect promised to make him a big businessman if the NDC wins the 2024 elections. The businessman requested they meet at the Akwasidae Festival celebration for the money. When they met at Manhyia Palace, the businessman insisted on meeting the former President himself but this was unsuccessful leading to the arrest. Confirmed: Teacher Kwadwo sacked by GES
According to a Facebook post by one of Ghana’s industrious teacher Michael Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Teacher Kwadwo has his District Education (GES) Office through the Ghana Education Service says they have sacked him. NPP Sacked Top Executive barely 24 Hrs To Their National Delegates Conference
A letter in our possession has it that the NPP in the Sunyani West Constituency in the Bono Region has sacked their Communications Director, Mr. Atta Bosomtwe effective December 17, 2021. The letter says, “As you may be aware, communication is very vital to the party in their preparation for the 2024 election, the Constituency Executive Committee has decided to immediately find a replacement for Mr. Bosomtwe in order to attain maximum communication efficiency in the Constituency”. Ghc207,407,899.46 missing at Ministry of Trade & Industry as interest subsidy on 1D1F loans
Worrying revelation coming from the Minority in Parliament shows a whooping amount is missing at the Ministry of Trade and Industry as interest subsidy on 1D1F loans. According to the Minority, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Page 11, of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) 2022-2025 for the Ministry of Trade & Industry states that in 2021, the number of Participating Financial Institutions (PFIs) increased from 13 to 15 and a total of GHS 2.69 billion have been granted by the PFIs as loans to finance the 1D1F projects/companies. Out of this, GHS269 million has been disbursed by the government as interest subsidy payment support to de-risk PFI’s loans to 1D1F companies. However, the minority is requesting from the Ministry of Trade to provide names of the banks and the names of each of the companies as well as the amount each and every company has taken. Minority said, “The Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Alan Kyeremanten, on the onset of the 1D1F programme negotiated with selected financial institutions to grant loans to beneficiary 1D1F companies/factories”. The government agreed to absorb 10% of the 20% interest charge on loans to 1D1F companies as a subsidy. Minority position regarding 2022 Budget Consideration
According to the Minority, the Appropriation Bill for 2021 to cater for ordinary government business for 2022 has just been passed. The killer E-Levy bill has yet to be considered by Parliament. For the avoidance of doubt, the Minority continues its opposition to the e-levy. However, a statement signed by the Minority leader Hon. Haruna Iddrisu said: “We in the Minority remain committed to exploring lawful and democratic means of getting the government to abandon this insensitive, obnoxious and regressive tax. Absolutely nothing can be more Ghanaian and progressive at this stage, than a demand that Government considers the economic challenges of the ordinary Ghanaian in rolling out taxes”. Below is the full release: Minority’s Press Statement on Developments Regarding 2022 Budget Consideration The minority group in parliament have since the beginning of this parliament demonstrated fidelity to the collective aspirations of the people of this country and most importantly to the constitution of the republic. In commitment to these democratic tenets, the group on some occasions have been the subject of attacks by otherwise concerned members of its own political party. It is therefore without basis for anyone to suggest that this minority group seeks to obstruct government business at the least opportunity. On the contrary, we have at every instance demonstrated commitment to good governance, the 1992 constitution and the standing orders of parliament. An objective overview of the group’s stance on the current budget amplifies our fidelity to the national interest. Right after the Minister for Finance presented the government’s budget on behalf of the President, the minority group through its leadership indicated its opposition to aspects of the budget and called for a review, failure of which would compel the minority to reject the budget. Consistent with this call for a review which were not heeded to, the minority got the required votes to reject the budget policy on the 26th of November 2021. The Majority responded to this lawful rejection with an irregular and illegal procedure purporting to rescind the earlier rejection and the nation looked on as they debased, in their usual fashion, democratic tenets. The minority’s efforts to reverse such rape of the constitution and gross disrespect of parliament’s standing orders were frustrated by an extremely partisan majority group and 1st Deputy Speaker. Nonetheless the Minority group’s action compelled an engagement with the finance minister who have since made all concessions but one(The Killer E-Levy) on behalf of the President. He has written officially to parliament to modify the initial budget statement to reflect these concessions. Taking into consideration these concessions and modifications to the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, the Minority have since examined the sector ministries estimates, but remain vehemently opposed to that which the government remains adamant to withdraw, the killer E-Levy of 1.75%, which undoubtedly will subject Ghanaians to immense financial pressure and further thwart our nation’s ease of doing business and digitization drive.
