Just In: Dr. Bawumia launched e-Travel Card for public officials
The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has launched an e-Travel Card for all public officials in the country. According to Dr. Bawumia, “Since Independence, public officials are provided cash for their imprest when they travel. This system has many associated problems including the risks of carrying cash, fraud in the disbursement of imprest, the increasing use of cashless payment channels in many jurisdictions, ineffective monitoring and controls, etc. The Reason: e-Travel Card will facilitate the cashless disbursement of travel allowance and other payments for local and foreign trips of public officials. “All officials will be issued with the e-Travel card and their imprest and per diem for travel will automatically be put on the card for use”. He pointed He added: “The e-Travel Card is expected to deliver several benefits, including the elimination of the risk of carrying cash; transparency and ease of accountability; timely retirement of accountable Imprest; and improved monitoring and controls of budgetary allocations for official travels to avoid overspending”. He believes, “The era of cash for travel in the public sector will soon be over, bringing further transparency and accountability in the use of public funds. Breaking News: Prez. Akufo-Addo suspends pompous MCE for misconduct
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has suspended the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis, Abdul-Mumin Issah for misconduct. The DCE has been granted a Ghc100, 000 bail with 3 sureties after he was charged for dangerous driving and assaulting Police Officer. The court presided over by His Honour Micheal Ampadu has adjourned the case to Thursday, 17th of March 2022. However, a letter signed by the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Daniel kwaku Botwe said that the MCE has been suspended from office with immediate effect pending an inquiry into his encounter with the Police on February 3, 2022. “Without prejudice to the matter now before court, the government takes a very dim view of the comments made by the Metropolitan Chief Executive during his exchanges with the Police,” he indicated. John Mahama couldn’t build Asomdwee Park for over 4 years in power after Prez Mills death–Anyidoho
The former Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has rained praises on Akufo-Addo and his government for accepting his plead to build Asomdwee Park for his late boss former President Evans Atta Mills. Says former President Mahama couldn’t do that after four and half years. According to Mr. Anyidoho, President Akufo-Addo did what former President John Mahama could not do for his boss after four half years in power as President. “I don’t think the opposition should determine taxes a sitting government should collect or not—Dr. Stephen Amoah
The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, says, there is no historical record that shows Ghanaians are excited when government in power decides to pass taxes. Speaking to Apexnewsgh.com in an exclusive interview, Mr. Amoah said, the ongoing hullabaloos about the E-levy:“…is a way of the opposition trying to champion a propaganda course and is catching up with our people”. He asked: “When in our history as a country that we have passed a bill whether the NDC-NPP government that the people of Ghana are happy about? Nobody wants to pay, let’s be honest. So, this issue about the people of Ghana are not happy with the tax, to me is a way of the opposition trying to champion a propaganda course and is catching up with our people. “If there can be any evidence that last year, last four years, there is a historical record that we were passing taxes and Ghanaians were so happy in paying taxes” “I don’t think the opposition should determine taxes a sitting government should collect or not. And is not even the first time a party in government is passing a bill and we haven’t seen the opposition even leaving the house for it to be passed by the government in power.
