“Adidi-gya” is the Bane of Ghana’s Underdevelopment – Chairman of Christian Council
The Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana and the Moderator of the General Assembly of Presbyterian Church of Ghana, The Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante has observed that Ghana’s problem of Underdevelopment is due to systemic greed popularly known in the local Twi language as “Adidi-gya” or “adige-monge” in the Frafra language, that has dangerously creeped into the social fiber of the country. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante said, even though Ghana is 70 percent Christians, the increasing number of corruption and cases of stealing public resources leaves one to wonder whether people still value Christian morals. The theology Professor also chastised pastors who take a lot from their congregants and give them nothing in return. He maintained that due to greed and the desire to get rich quickly, some pastors have turned away from preaching salvation and repentance to prosperity and wealth. He, therefore, admonished Christians to make Christ their example and desist from acts of greed and corruption. Bawku must give peace a chance – Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante has called on the people of Bawku to give peace a chance for the sake of development and advancement. Apexnewsgh.com report Speaking at a service in Bolgatanga as part of his eight days pastoral visit to the Upper Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and to dedicate a new chapel for the Penial Congregation, the Moderator who is also the President of the Christian Council of Ghana appealed to the people of Bawku to give peace a chance to facilitate development and progress, noting that Ghana is developing and Bawku cannot be left out because of the conflict. He observed that even though people were from different tribes and ethnic backgrounds, building a prosperous and developed nation or community required a deliberate and conscious effort to eschew historical differences and tribal hatred. He, therefore, appealed to both Kusaasis and Mamprusis to see each other as brothers and a people with a common future, sighting inter-marriages between the two tribs as sufficient basis to give peace a chance. Meanwhile, his appeal also followed his visit to Bawku on March 19, 2022, which saw him and other pastors of the church knelt and prayed for peace in the area. Bawku has been in the news for the past few months due to the resurgence of a protracted ethnic conflict between the Kusaases and Mamprusis that has left some people dead and several others including personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces injured. Don’t force us to relocate Bawku Presby Hospital and Nurses Training College to Bolgatanga –Presbyterian Moderator
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana the Rt. Rev. Prof Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante has lamented that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana may be forced to relocate both the Presbyterian Hospital and Nurses and Midwifery Training College in Bawku to Bolgatanga if the current ethnic conflict between the Kusasis and the Mamprusis persist for long. Apexnewsgh.com report The Moderator made pronouncement during a sermon of his eight days pastoral visit to the Upper Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. The Moderator also observed that the conflict was having a heavy toll on the operations of both the Hospital and Nurses and Midwifery Training College. He stated that all the current first-year students of the Nurses and Midwifery Training College have had to be moved to Bolgatanga and housed in a rented place to continue with academic work for their safety. The second and third-year students who were programmed to return to the school on March 15, 2022, have had to also be relocated to Bolgatanga to continue with their studies at a rented place as managers observed the conflict situation in the area. He, therefore, appealed to the people of Bawku to understand that meaningful development cannot be achieved in the midst of conflict and ethnic intolerance. He admonished the people of Bawku to see themselves as God’s children first and one people with a common destiny. It will be recalled that the eruption of ethnic violence in Bawku in the past few weeks has left some people dead and scores of others including personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces sent to ensure peace in the area seriously injured from gunshot wounds. Oliver Barker-Vormawor making unnecessary drama–Police
The police has responded to the claims by #FixTheCountry convener Oliver Barker-Vormawor that he donated food to suspects in police custody at Ashaiman but was later asked to come back for them following an ‘order from above’. According to the police, statement released on 20 March 2022, police said, Mr Barker-Vomawor was informed, through his lawyers that the intended food donation was against the standard operating procedure of the police regarding the feeding of persons in police custody and he should, therefore, reconsider his donation decision. Police in their statement further stated that in spite of the earlier notice, the Fixthecountry convener still showed up at the station in the company of some individuals and a musical band with the intention of still making the donation and “creating unnecessary drama” at the scene.
