Guinness Ghana Limited gets more supply of sorghum from Upper East Region—Francis Ennor
The Upper East Regional Director of Agriculture, Mr. Francis Ennor has revealed that Guinness Ghana Limited, a Ghanaian brewery company that is into the brewery of alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages is getting more supply of sorghum from farmers in the Upper East than any other part of the country. According to the Director, the high demand for sorghum by buyers has made it a point for farmers in the region to take advantage of the already available market. He noted that “Guinness Ghana Limited is buying the Sorghum our farmers produced and Peasant Farmers Association has been at the forefront to organize these farmers. We gave them the production Technologist during our visit and they have been able to produce a lot for the Guinness Ghana people. I quite remember when I came here in 2019, they had enough that the Guinness people warehouse in Accra cannot contain it. So, we have to find a warehouse for them to put the surplus there for them to be picking gradually as at when they need it. So, that is an encouragement”. “For this year, they have actually come in a big way to meet our farmers because the demand they want is very big, they have expanded to 8 districts now producing sorghum for Guinness Ghana and we have made it a target that next year, all the districts should involve themselves in the production of sorghum because there is already an available market for it”. “So, why not take that advantage once the market has been our problem as Agriculture production in the country, so is something good we are doing”. He stressed “And through that, once the market is created we can link the farmers to some aggregators that whatever products that they have, they can be linked to aggregator to come and buy them”. We have started, last year we could not sign MOU with most of them but for this year we are going to sign MOU with all those aggregators or buyers who want to come and buy the product from our farmers. ‘Smart’ Okudzeto Ablakwa secures job for 97 NABCO beneficiaries in his district.
The Member of Parliament for the people of North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has done it again for the neglected NABCO beneficiaries in his constituency. Apexnewsgh.com report Mr. Ablakwa who has not been with the treatment given to beneficiaries has lobbied for the 97 NABCO beneficiaries in his constituency to be employed by a Chinese firm operating in his constituency Sinostone Bioethanol Manufacturing Ltd. In the past, Mr. Ablakwa put his two monthly salaries at the disposal of National Service Personnel in North Tongu, whose allowances were delayed for some time. He also placed all teachers and other workers who felt the effect of the lockdown on a monthly salary.Currently, Mr. Ablakwa has again gone to the aid of suffering personnel of the Nation Builders Corps programme (NABCo), just a day after the program’s expiration. According to Mr. Ablakwa’s post on his Meta wall on Thursday, September 1, 2022: “As Government ends NaBCo today September 1, 2022; I am delighted to announce that I have successfully negotiated with the Chinese management of Sinostone Bioethanol Manufacturing Ltd (SBML) located in my beloved North Tongu, to immediately employ all our 97 NaBCo beneficiaries.We shall continue to look out for each other with our best efforts. Bawku West District on Fire, Properties Damaged
Fire has destroyed some parts of the Bawku West District Assembly building in the Upper East Region. Apexnewsgh.com report The fire is perceived to be a fault caused by electrical cables at 8:00pm on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. The fire incident affected some assembly properties such as documents, computers, printers, shockers, fans, tables and chairs, ceilings and other more. Eye witness confirmed that firemen swiftly responded to the distress call and managed to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining buildings. Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Alhaji Issahaku Ahmed Tahiru expressed shock at the inferno. He said almost all the two offices belonging to the non-formal education unit have been destroyed. “I am very sure some of the cables are weak and need replacement. I have ever experienced or heard a noise of electric sound and scent in my office and called my engineers and they checked and said all was right. “Let’s all wait for the appropriate authorities to submit their findings and we take it from there,” he stated. UER: Farmers to experience low production this farming season because of…
Mr. John Akaribo a peasant farmer with the Upper East Peasant Farmer Association has said due to numerous challenges bedeviling the activities of farmers in the Upper East Region, there is a huge possibility of a reduction in the 2022 farming seasonal activity. Mr. Akaribo revealed this during an exclusive interview with Ngamegbualam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com Wednesday, August 31, 2022. According to him, “Normally in Agriculture when people see that there is a heavy downpour, they think that is all about it but we are talking about the distribution that will make crops very effective. So, this year the distribution is not far and we have already lost some of our early crops like the Naara and other things we have lost lot of them and even in the rice sector, we have also lost the rice in some other parts. Because at the time the rice was germinating, we experience a long drought and some of us will not get anything because of that”. He said“And secondly, Agric Production goes with the subsidies like fertilizers, inputs and this year fertilizer has been a challenge to farmers by way of being inadequate and the high cost of the fertilizer. If a 50kg of fertilizer is going for Ghc 320.00 then how do expect the open market to be? So, these are some of the challenges”. He explained He said: “This implies that farmers will definitely cut production. If you are going in for 10 acres definitely you cannot go in for 10 acres again, you have to reduce it to 5 acres”.However, he believes that food production this year will see a tremendous reduction. “This year, we are likely to see a reduction in production and that implies that we are not going to get anything like the prices of goods and services is going down but we are praying that what we have now in the market can be sustained” he maintained. Single Mothers Association leader in the Upper East Region Faustina Tine Abagre says, they formed the group because girls are rendered unless by men with no conscience in the society, especially within the Frafra-speaking areas. Apexnewsgh.com Giving some explanation to Apexnewsgh.com, Madam Abagre said: “Formerly, if a couple got married and they were not able to give birth to a male child, they picked one of their girl children to remain at home to enable a distance relative to produce the child with her. And on the process, if they get a male child, that child will now inherit the house in the future. But that was abused” She stressed. “It was abused in the sense that, once they know they can sleep with you but can’t marry you, they will come and lure you into this relationship, make children with you go out and marry another woman and leave you with the children”. “So, if you are not able to take care of your children to go to school, they will be street children, they will go wayward and is a problem in the society. So, we decided to form the Single Mother’s Association to fight that canker. So that stakeholders will allow men who do that to women to be able to marry them and don’t leave them to suffer with the children”. “They forced girls to be a dropout, when the girl is getting to secondary, because of this distance relationship they will lure you into pregnancy, and then, you are a dropout. Madam Abagre said they have been engaging stakeholders and the chiefs to see whether a bye-law can be secured to help bring such canker to order. GSDFund encourages people of Upper East to participate on the available grants
The Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) Monitoring and Evaluation officer Naomi Nunoamesi has encouraged the people of Upper East to participate duly in the ongoing SDF grants which the submission of application is scheduled to end on September 16, 2022. Apexnewsgh.com report According to Madam Naomi, she came to deepen the understanding of the people of the Upper East Region about the grant process, and grant system and also guide them on how to get into the system and get support from the Ghana Skills Development Fund Project. She told Apexnewsgh.com that she is hopeful that by the application submission on September 16, 2022, they will get a lot of applications from the Upper East Region. The Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) focuses on the provision of entrepreneurship and micro and small enterprise support for jobs. The GSDF is the vehicle to operationalize the subcomponent of the Ghana Jobs and Skill Project (GJSP) and is implemented by the Commission for Technical Vocation Education and Training (CTVET). “The Skills Development Fund is a competitive grant and demand-driven which is supposed to respond to skill needs organizations. For example, you have an enterprise and skill capital is not making you productive or operate at an optimal level, we are available to offer the support you need to get you to operate at that level” “In all, we are looking at standardizing industry in the country and that is the bigger goal for everything”. Meanwhile, during the programme, one of the issues raised by participants was about transparency and the fear of politicization of the grant by way of selecting persons belonging to the governing party and avoiding other members perceived otherwise especially when the loan is facilitated by the current. However, responding to the question, the Monitoring and Evaluation officer Naomi Nunoamesi said there is nothing to fear. “It is a very transparent program and it has been transparent except that people have their doubts about these systems. The well-meaning people and all the donor partners are there, our clients are there and we ourselves are there. So, let just believe in the integrity of persons are on the Steering Committee and trust that we do a good job.
