Leave ‘excellent’ Ofori-Atta alone!– President Akufo-Addo
President Nana Akufo-Addo has said Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s Finance Minister has been an excellent handler of the Ghanaian economy, stressing that he sees no reason to sack him as being demanded by his critics. President Akufo-Addo spoke on OTEC FM in the Ashanti Region on the first day of his four-day official working tour of that part of the country, Mr. Akufo-Addo disregards the criticisms that his cousin the Finance Minister is cause for Ghana’s return to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for help after he mismanaged the economy to the fullest. President said he takes full responsibility for the cause of Ghana’s return to the IMF since he took the decision as the head of state. He argued that the same Ofori-Atta was able to manage an IMF-programmed economy that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) inherited in 2017 to become one of the fastest-growing economies in the world with an average annual growth rate of 7%. The president, thus, wondered, how he could cut ties with Mr. Ofori-Atta as finance minister. The president said he has a lot of difficulties understanding the clamor for Mr. Ofori-Atta’s exit, since, he noted, even the IMF confirmed that the causes of the current economic situation in Ghana are global in nature rather than a result of internal mismanagement. “It is very easy for people to say we went back to the IMF due to mismanagement of the economy. I do not accept that criticism because the reasons why we got into the situation we find ourselves has very little to do with us. Sammy Gyamfi questioned Vice President silence over economic hardship
Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, has said he’s surprised that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who was made the chairman of the economic management team of the Akufo-Addo government is nowhere to be found despite the increasing hardship bedeviling the country. The current country’s inflation is flying around 37 percent while the cedi is selling at more than GHS12 against the US dollar.Meanwhile, the prices of petroleum products just went up at the pumps in what has been a streak since the beginning of the year. Petrol is now selling at ₵13.10 per litre while diesel is selling at ₵15.99.Kerosene is also selling at ₵13.19. The recent hikes took effect on Sunday, 16 October 2022.However, using his Twitter account to express his opinion on the current situation, Mr. Gyamfi imagined why the Vice President has not uttered any word as the country’s Chairman of the Economic Management Committee. “A gallon of diesel is selling at GHS72 while the dollar is selling at GHS12.5. BECE: 19,999 candidates participating in the Upper East
In the Upper East Region, candidates numbering Nineteen Thousand, Nine Hundred and Ninety Nine (19,999) are taking part in the 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) as its officially kick start today Monday October 17, 2022 According to the Upper East Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service Nathaniel N-yaaba, out of the 19,999 students participating in the examination, a total of 10,000 are girls whiles the boys are numbering 9,999. Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu also visited the Bolgatanga Technical Institution (BOTECH) to offer his encouraging words to participating candidates. He asked them to feel free and write their exams and avoid any fear or intimidation whiles writing your exam.
