Owusu Afriyie follows Alan resignation footsteps
The Agric Minister Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto submitted his resignation letter to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House today, Tuesday, January 10, 2023. The Agric has resigned to continue with his ambition of contesting for the presidential position ahead of the 2024 election, on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). However, receiving his resignation letter, President Akufo-Addo accepted his decision and wished him well.. Dr Akoto is the second Minister to resign from office this year after Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen, this beginning of the year. Meanwhile, Mr Kyerematen’s resignation officially takes effect from Monday, 16 January 2023. Dr. Akoto is yet to address the nation. Hon. Ndanbon donates Jersey’s, boots and money, as he pledges to support the group in the next edition
The Upper East Regional Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party who doubles as the Assembly man for the Zoliba-tidongo electoral area in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region Hon. Charles Taleog Ndabon has made some donations at the just-ended annual inter-community football gala competition organized by Meehiboug Youth Association (MYA), a youth group located at Meehiboug, a suburb of Zanlerigu. Speaking at the football gala Hon. Ndanbon acknowledged the effort Meehiboug Youth Association (MYA), in the area, especially by way of using football to bring the people of Nabdam together. He believes that is a step in the right direction. Meanwhile as part of his way to motivate and support the football gala initiative, Hon. Ndanbon donated a set of jerseys and a football to the Pelungu the winning team and donated a set of jerseys to the runner-up Tindongo United, a Damol-Tindongo-based team. He also awards football boots to both the best goalkeeper and the best player of the tournament. And as well supported Meehiboug Youth Association, the organizers of the event with an amount of (Ghc 500.00) Five Hundred Ghana Cedis. Meanwhile, following numerous appeals by the group for support during the awards ceremony of the thirteenth edition of the annual inter-community gala competition held at the Gundork JHS park on Sunday. The group noted that the lack of sponsorship for the competition has affected the vision of the association.“We have always intended to organize a more inclusive and engaging football gala over the years but the lack of sponsors to our cause has hampered this idea from becoming a reality; we normally do this through our individual contributions over the years.” The group revealed “…we call on you, your abled high table members and the general public to guide us in getting sponsors for our annual football gala. We would be knocking at your door for your guidance in getting sponsors for our gala. They appealed However, after listening to the group appeal for sponsorship, the regional NPP Organizer Hon. Ndanbon made a pledge to support the Organizers of the tournament in the upcoming 2023 edition. According to him, he wants the 2023 edition to be more attractive. Hon. Ndandon did not also hide his feeling with regard to the ward. He believes advised Organizers of the event to make sure awards are done the same day immediately after the tournament instead of shifting the following day which in a way made it more stressful for the invited guests.This year’s competition started on Wednesday, January 4 and ended Saturday, January 7. The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said he is convinced that American rapper Meek Mill has been sincere in his apology to Ghanaians after his video shoot. 1D1F: Yorogo leather, a factory only that Trade Minister is finding it….
The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive Rex Asanga has refuted claims by some individuals who hold the views that Bolgatanga Municipal has not benefited from any factory under the government policy of 1District 1Factory (1D1F). According to Mr. Asanga, the Municipality has benefited from the government’s policy at Yorogo. He said the leather factory is only not active currently because the Trade Minister has not been able to find suitable machines to kick start production. “We have a leather factory at Yorogo, the buildings are completed. The problem is that the Minister of Trade is finding it difficult to get suitable machines for the factory”. “Is a factory in the making, if the machines were there by now, is going to give employment to about 60 youths” The “One District One Factory” Initiative is a key component of the Industrial Transformation Agenda of the NPP Government. The concept was first introduced by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Presidential Special Initiatives during the past New Patriotic Party (NPP) Administration, as part of an integrated programme for Accelerated Growth and Industrial Development. Originally designated as the Rural Enterprises Development Programme, and later rebranded as the District Industrialisation Programme (DIP). Overturn Napo’s approval of Genser deal – Ghana Gas workers urge Akufo-Akufo
The Ghana Gas Senior Staff Association has questioned the Minister of Energy’s commitment to the construction of a second state-owned Gas Processing Plant and the entire indigenisation drive of the sector. A statement issued by the Ghana Gas-SSA urged President Akufo-Addo to intervene in the matter since his dream of having a second Gas Processing Plant is on the line. The workers of Ghana Gas expressed disquiet about the way the current Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, is handling the issue of the concurrent existence of Genser Energy Ghana Limited’s (GEGL/Genser) Gas Conditioning Plant and Ghana Gas’ Gas Processing Plant Train 2. They claimed the situation reverses the hard-earned indigenisation achievement by his predecessors. “Ghana Gas is 100% owned by the state whiles Genser is known to have about 90% of its shares being owned by foreigners. It is also known that Genser repatriates over 80% of its revenue to South Africa. Therefore, it baffles the minds of workers of Ghana Gas for any Minister of State to do the bidding of Genser at the expense of a state-owned company. It is worthy to note that Ghana Gas derives its obligation to construct a second Gas Processing Plant from the 2022 President’s State of the Nation Address. The President was emphatic that Ghana Gas will be building a second Gas Processing Plant with a higher capacity than the existing Gas Processing Plant,” the statement said. The statement further added that having a private-owned entity compete with Ghana Gas for raw gas from the Jubilee fields is a recipe for disaster. The Ghana Gas-SSA has therefore called on the President to overturn the Minister’s approval of the 50MMSCFD of raw gas supply to Genser’s plant. Former President His Excellency John Dramani Mahama says, President Nana Akufo-Addo has consistently put pressure on state anti-corruption institutions by announcing clearance of appointees and companies that are under investigation for wrongdoing.” an attitude he described as an unacceptable. The shocking impudence is how and when he even did that at a public event called by the country’s catholic clergy. Fortunately, and unfortunately, we are told by the owner of Akonta Mining that the Minister has explained to him they were forced to unwillingly act against his company because of public pressure from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), CSOs and NGOs. He also very alarmingly said the President called him ostensibly to appease him over Government’s action and that the Office of Special Prosecutor cannot touch him. This is a sad commentary for a country that has in the past been held up in Africa as the poster boy for rule of law and democratic governance. This sad development also erodes the years of hard work, which have earned Ghana international appeal in climate change and sustainable development discourse globally. In addition, the President’s comment cannot be allowed to override or become a substitute for the statutory mandate granted the investigative bodies of Ghana by the Constitution. Such acts fly in the face of justice and the fight against corruption, and of course erodes the faith of our citizens in our democracy. As enjoined by our National Anthem to “cherish fearless honesty” and “resist oppressors’ rule,” we must all as citizens support the anti-corruption institutions to carry out their duties fairly and courageously without undue interference by any influences.
