Samira Bawumia bags LLB in London
Mrs Samira Bawumia, the wife of the Ghana’s Vice-President, has finished her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme. The wife of the Vice President graduated last week in London. According to Mrs. Bawumia, “A few years ago, with support and encouragement from family and friends, I took advantage of the Distance (Online) Law Degree Programme offered by the University of London.” “Thankfully, I had the honour of graduating with a Bachelor of Laws degree, last week, in spite of the numerous challenges COVID-19 presented.” She said. According to her, “It has been an incredible journey of learning while juggling work, family, and official duties.” “Let’s be inspired to pursue our dreams irrespective of the challenges we’re faced with,” Mrs. Bawumia.
Hospital bills of victims of soldiers brutality in my constituency have become a debt on me—MP cries
The Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Mr. Ernest Norgbe Emmanuel Agyabeng, says he has been paying hospital bills, buying drugs, and involving the services of psychologists among others for the victims of the military brutalities in his constituency. He said: “It has become a debt on me as the MP. I had a call from one at the hospital where I have to send money to be able to buy medicines. Some of them are still undergoing some kind of trauma, so I’m trying to organize a psychologist which I have spoken to, to talk to them. We are collating data to see whether we can arrange for some sort of compensation for all of them”. On March 7, 2023, soldiers believed to have come from Michel and Burma Camp stormed Taifa. Where the soldier, Imoro Sherif was killed and started brutalizing residents. 184 residents were later arrested and conveyed to Burma camp where they were further brutalized. These residents were released after the real suspects who were hiding in Ashaiman were arrested by an intelligence-led investigative operation by the police service. However, the Circuit Court in Ashaiman has remanded all the six accused persons who have been arrested in connection with the killing of a 21-year-old soldier, Imoro Sherif at Ashaiman on 4th March 2023. He further called on the government to work to prevent such military invasions which are causing pain and havoc to humanity. Meanwhile, the MP has revealed that his intention is to prevent further occurrences “My intention is to make sure that we stop this kind of invasion, a dangerous crime on humanity. Especially when the military will invade a community, brutalize people, etc. I am of the view that it should be a thing of the past,” the lawmaker stated.
MTN Ghana commemorates IWD with coaching and mentorship session
Female employees of MTN Ghana in celebrating this year’s International Women’s Day had a session with Professional Leadership Development Consultants Doreen Baffoe and Jennifer Agyeman. The event dubbed ‘Lunch and Learn’ came off at the MTN House in Accra. In line with the theme for this year’s celebration, ‘DigitALL Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality by Embracing Equity and Support Systems to Succeed’, the guest speakers shared insights on the art of storytelling and communication. They also shared the essence of leveraging mentors and coaches in the workplace to enhance one’s careers. The Chief Human Resource Officer of MTN Ghana, Amma Benneh-Amponsah said that several initiatives have been implemented by MTN Ghana to create equity, diversity, and inclusion. She said, “We have support from MTN Group to launch programs that opens us up from a talent support perspective to reach other women across MTN Group. “We have launched a program called “Women@Work”, which is system-based and allows staff to identify females across MTN Group and select them as mentors, sponsors and coaches. “The ‘Women@Work’ program complements MTN’s existing in-house STIR Mentoring Program.” Some selected employees were given the platform to share their experiences under the STIR Mentoring program and how it has helped their career and personal development. They encouraged all staff to take advantage of the programs. MTN employees in Ghana closed the day with a ‘Sip and Groove’ networking party across all their footprints in Ghana.
Just in: NDC working on getting results midnight of election day–Mahama
Former President John Mahama has revealed, the National Democratic Congress is targeting to collate all the results of the 2024 general elections by midnight of the election day. The former President made this known to delegates in Sunyani East and West. He said “Persons selected as polling agents must be vigilant and ensure that all ballot papers are counted and call the party office later and disclose the figures the party secured”. “The figures will be uploaded into the system so by midnight, the party will have all results”, he stated. According to him, “All polling agents will be trained”. Also addressing branch and constituency executives on the first day of his campaign in the Bono East Region, Mr. Mahama stressed: “Ghanaians are looking up to us, the NDC, to win power and save them from their present predicament of hardship, high living cost, lack of critical infrastructure in their communities among others”. “I know you will vote for me, and I thank you all. I will also work hard with you to campaign effectively for our 2024 victory. I will provide the materials and logistics needed, but please let’s send them to the branches when they come. That is where the work is”, he said. However, Mr. Mahama also called for a careful selection of competent polling agents and for extreme vigilance to ensure that the ballots are protected until the results are counted and declared.
