Dampare not managing Police Service well and majority of officers not happy—COP Mensah
The Ghana Police Service’s Director of Operations, COP George Alex Mensah, has raised concerns about the management of the Police Service by Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. In a recent development, COP Mensah has made an admission of his political involvement without disclosing which political party he aligns with. This statement comes in light of a leaked tape where he can be heard suggesting that the IGP should be ousted to secure a victory for the NPP in the upcoming 2024 elections. However, COP Mensah vehemently denies the authenticity of the tape, asserting that it has been manipulated and does not accurately portray his original conversation with former NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Bugri Naabu. COP Mensah expressed his inability to confirm various details on the tape during his appearance before the investigating committee. Furthermore, he firmly declared that there was no plot to remove the IGP, emphasizing that the circulating tape has been heavily edited. During a conversation with Committee Chairman Samuel Atta Akyea, COP Mensah expressed his belief that the tape played today was edited. He clarified that he has not heard an unedited version of the tape as he currently sits here. Furthermore, COP Mensah mentioned that there were several elements in the tape that he does not recall and numerous discussions with Bugri Naabu that were not included. He emphasized that some of these discussions were of a private nature, which he is unwilling to discuss publicly. Insisted having a meeting Bugri Naabu “I had a meeting with Bugri Naabu but I don’t remember having any plan to remove the IGP because I don’t remove IGPs.” In contrast, Bugri Naabu’s claims stand in direct opposition to those made by COP Mensah. Naabu not only affirmed the authenticity of the recording but also acknowledged that he had personally recorded it in his private office located in Osu. It was revealed that COP Mensah had sought Naabu’s direct involvement in discussing the potential dismissal of Dampare from his position, citing concerns that Dampare’s actions might impede the NPP’s chances of winning the 2024 elections. Mathew Silas Amoah, the Bolgatanga East Unopposed Parliamentary Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said, he will be able to blend his business with politics. That is why I made the argument that all our MPs run businesses but they don’t bring it to the public domain, because you don’t risk it being attacked. It could be attacked politically”. “So, as much as we can, we always want to hide our businesses, not that we are shying away from making it Known to people but in terms of competitiveness, it can cause a lot of problems. So, that’s why we sometimes slow down in what we do and carry on politics”. How many MPs in the region do you know their businesses apart from them being MPs? They will tell you we are farming and all that. But behind that, there are a lot of businesses they do on the side but they don’t bring it to the public domain. So, I think because is Mathew Amoah, because am young they should be forcing me to come and say what I do and I will come and say it. However, Mr. Amoah advised that anyone who has a contrary view about his business should report him to the appropriate authorities “The laws are there in the country and if you feel somebody is doing something fishy, you have the right as a citizen to report to the right authorities. So, am a businessman” Explaining further, Mr. Amoah told Apexnewsgh that, there was a campaign against his personality and people were surprised that somebody could out of his pocket help people with such an amount of money. They thought it was not normal, so they wanted to find something to attach to that. “But what I know is that, if they say someone has gone for a ritual, they don’t spend his money, he keeps the money for himself. But I have never seen anywhere they say the way this person is given out money, he has gone for money ritual”. I work hard, I have been in a situation of poverty, I have gone through rounds of poverty, my father, mother, and i. So, when someone comes to tell me I am unable to pay my school fees, I know how it feels and I don’t mind giving you my last pesewas to go hungry. Minority disappointed by police approach ahead of OccupyBoG demonstration
The Ghana Police Service’s decision to seek an injunction from the courts to halt the planned protest on Tuesday, September 5th, has been strongly condemned by the Minority in Parliament. Apexnewsghcom report Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah expressed disappointment with the police’s approach, stating that they should have engaged in further dialogue to address the areas of disagreement instead of resorting to legal action. The protest is aimed at holding the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his deputies accountable for the mismanagement of the bank, which has resulted in a significant loss of GH¢60.8 billion and pushed many Ghanaians into poverty. The Minority was served with a High Court injunction, and Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah emphasized that nothing will deter them from carrying out the protest, expressing confidence that the court will grant permission for the march.
