EU releases €80,000 to Northern Ghana for flood preparedness
The European Union (EU) has allocated a budget of €80,000 to enhance flood preparedness in the Northern Region. The EU has expressed its commitment to supporting the five Northern Regions of Ghana in their efforts to prepare for flood risks. The funding will be utilized for a range of initiatives aimed at improving flood preparedness and response. The key objectives of this EU funding initiative are as follows: Early Warning Systems: The allocated funds will be used to enhance early warning systems, ensuring timely alerts and effective communication in the event of flooding. Risk Analysis and Monitoring: The initiative will establish current risk assessments and monitoring mechanisms to evaluate the evolving situation and inform response strategies. Anticipation and Mitigation Measures: The funds will support the implementation of actions to mitigate and prevent the impact of potential floods The European Union (EU) has emphasized the significance of funding aimed at reducing the vulnerability of approximately 50,000 people residing in the Northern Regions of Ghana during the peak of the rainy season. The funding will target areas of shelter, water, sanitation, and health. To ensure an effective response in the event of a flood emergency, priority actions and preparedness plans will be developed. These initiatives will be implemented by the Ghanaian Red Cross, allowing for both anticipatory and early actions. The plan includes training volunteers, prepositioning response supplies for quick deployment, early evacuation planning for high-risk areas, simulation exercises, and educational sessions on water-related diseases ahead of the flood season. The EU’s humanitarian assistance will primarily focus on the Northern, Upper East, and Upper West regions, which are home to approximately 2,144,677 people. NPP parliamentary aspirant’s vetting scheduled for Friday, Sept 8
The National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has approved an Extraordinary Constituency Delegate’s Conference. The vetting process for Parliamentary aspirants will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at all Regional Party offices. Elections are won at the polling Station, not in the court and very well harped social media campaign does not favour any self-acclaimed winner, the actual winner. How can number three win, when there’s number of two? It’s terribly sad that in trying to find the way forward, newly elected governments are held back. Voting patterns in Africa always reflect a growing antagonistic preference for the minority parties, thereby creating the false notion that the elections are rigged For almost three decades, I have been involved with the Nigerian politics at the highest level and can state equivocally without contradiction that, we have few politicians who are good sportsmanly, who would accept defeat, pick up a phone and call his opponent and congratulate. The corporate entity of Nigeria matters very much and any aggression in the camouflage of justice should be dismissed. Winning in Abuja and Lagos, without considering the overall national elections is like the self-bath of a small child rubbing only the stomach. Way back in 1979, when Obasanjo handed over to the first elected Executive President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, some gentlemen of the bar dusted their law books and headed for the court for interpretation of one third of state. Even Fela made music and money out of it. Subsequent elections in1983, there was commotion and rioting mostly in the western part and the trading of political horses with the return of the former Biafran Leader Chief Ojukwu.Late Chuba Okadigbo, the enfant terrible of National Party of Nigeria tried to bring the marginalized Ibos into the main national centre It was no mean task with the Doyen of Africa, Nnamdi Azikiwe. Intra party wranglings saw Chief Moshood Kasimawo Olawole Abiola forming clandestine alliance to subvert the constitutional government of Shagari. The Electoral Commissioner Ovie Whiskey was accused of taking one million naira to influence and rig the elections in favour of the President. The famous reply of Justice Ovie Whiskey was”i have never seen one million naira with my eyes and I see it, I will faint ” Chief MKO Abiola with his military friends succeeded in overthrowing President Shagari only to be elected on June 12th 1992 for the elections to be annulled. He couldn’t be sworn in and had to die under mysterious circumstances while under house arrest. The ruling class belongs to the same club, they control the cash of the oil, own and head the boards of several blue-chip companies with a cult like exclusiveness. Their weapon is the masses that they prefer to turn into asses. Nigeria is the heart of Africa and anything positive or negative that happens to Nigeria has rippling effect on the whole continent. Leaked Tape: COP George Alex Mensah and others interdicted by Ghana Police Services
The Ghana Police Service has recently in a statement announced the interdiction of three of its officers. Apexnewsgh.com reported The officers in question are Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah, Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi, and Superintendent Mr. George Lysander Asare. They have been suspended in connection with the Bugri Naabu audio tape, which is currently under investigation. According to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service on Thursday, September 7, 2023, signed by Public Affairs Director ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, interdiction has been implemented to allow for disciplinary proceedings to be conducted in accordance with Police Service Regulations. The audio tape allegedly captured the three officers plotting to remove the current Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. On Thursday Sep 07 2023, an alleged plot occurred in the office of Chief Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP. Following the leak and viral spread of the tape on social media, Bugri Naabu and two other men were summoned before a Parliamentary adhoc committee to investigate the matter. During their appearance before the committee, COP Mensah criticized Dr Dampare, stating that he is the worst IGP in Ghana’s history. Supporting this statement, Superintendent Asare informed the committee that he had additional information to share, but preferred to do so behind closed doors.
