Mr Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), has been released after being arrested by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
He was accused of vote-buying for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the parliamentary primaries. It was alleged that he had distributed funds to delegates.
The complaint was filed by Mr Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, who is Mr Nkansah’s rival for the Asante Akim Central parliamentary seat. Mr Nkansah was detained and taken to his office in Accra for further investigation.
He is running against the incumbent, Anyimadu Antwi, for the parliamentary seat. However, Anyimadu Antwi denies making the report to the Special Prosecutor. The parliamentary primaries for constituencies with sitting MPs are scheduled for January 27, 2024.
