The Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, has assured that measures are underway to lift the temporary ban on four radio stations shut down in Bawku by the National Communications Authority (NCA) due to security concerns. Apexnewsgh reports

The stations – Bawku FM, Source FM, Zahra FM, and Gumah FM – were closed on February 24, 2024, following a recommendation by the Regional Security Council (REGSEC).

According to Dr. Salih, the management of the affected radio stations will be required to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to operate in a manner that does not compromise the peace and security in the Bawku municipality. The MoU includes training presenters to prevent incendiary utterances that may fuel the conflict.

The minister revealed that the REGSEC has invited the managers of the radio stations to a meeting to discuss the MoU, and once the conditions are met, the ban on their operations will be lifted.

The training will be extended to all radio stations in the Bawku area, and they will be required to demonstrate evidence of their presenters’ training before resuming operations.

Dr. Salih emphasized the importance of radio stations in democratic governance and expressed his desire to leave a legacy of bringing sanity to Bawku, allowing residents to return to their normal lives.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Regional Chairman, William Nlanjerbor Jalulah, gave massive assurance to the minister of the media’s support in achieving the government’s development agenda in the region.
