The Ghana Police Service has raised concerns about a growing trend of human trafficking, where Ghanaians are being lured to countries within the ECOWAS sub-region with false promises.
According to DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), a recent rescue operation in Nigeria has brought to light the extent of this problem.
Between May 19 and the June 27, 2025, the police, in collaboration with Interpol, rescued 66 victims linked to a QNET-related trafficking network. These victims, mostly young Ghanaians, had been deceived with promises of recruitment into football academies and access to high-paying jobs abroad.
However, upon arrival, they were subjected to exploitative conditions, with their movements restricted and personal documents confiscated. The police have warned that human trafficking is a serious offense, and those found guilty will face severe penalties.
The police are urging Ghanaians to be cautious and vigilant, especially when dealing with opportunities that seem too good to be true. The public is advised to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the authorities.
This recent incident highlights the need for increased awareness and cooperation to combat human trafficking. The Ghana Police Service is working to protect its citizens and prevent further cases of exploitation.
