Vice President Opoku-Agyemang and UN Strengthen Ties for Inclusive Development

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has engaged in high-level talks with the United Nations leadership in Ghana, headed by UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Zia Choudhury, intending to deepen collaboration on Ghana’s development agenda.

During the meeting, the UN delegation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the government’s efforts, notably expressing readiness to partner on the proposed Women’s Bank initiative, which seeks to advance financial inclusion for women across the country.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang praised the UN for its longstanding support, highlighting that the true measure of leadership is the ability to “deliver justice for those who have fallen through the cracks.” She emphasised the importance of enhancing financial inclusion, creating opportunities for all citizens to realise their potential, and ensuring that government policies bring about real and positive changes in people’s lives.

The Vice President also stressed the need for solutions tailored to the unique challenges faced by vulnerable groups, rather than relying on broad, one-size-fits-all policies. She called for data-driven partnerships at every stage of policy development and implementation to maximise impact and accountability.

Reflecting on the outcome of the talks, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang noted that the meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership between Ghana and the United Nations as they work together toward inclusive development, social justice, and improved livelihoods for all citizens.
