It obvious that some ministers were seen as controversial in Akufo Addo’s first administration and they are likely not to get a second chance in the Akufo Addo’s second administration.
OSAFO MARFO
Many are of the view that Yaw Osafo Marfo, was the reason for the alleged attempt by the government to ask the Auditor General to go on leave in order to shed some wrongdoings and misappropriations of public funds by the government and its appointees.
Mr. Osafo Marfo also was in the center of justifying the decision of government to avoid the prosecution of the Chinese ‘galamsyer’ Aisha Huang. However, it is obvious these factors contributed to citizens decision during the 2020 election.
EDWARD MAHAMA
The appointment of Mr. Edward Mahama as ‘Ambassador at Large’ is one appointment that received a lot of criticism by Ghanaians in 2017, some call it a waste of public tax. Since his appointment, he appeared unheard and voiceless. Ghanaians considered this in making their decision during the December 7, elections.
Mavis Hawa Koomson
Her Ministry was in charge of the implementation of government policies, plans and implementation of government initiatives such as One village One Dam, One Million Dollar per Constituency, One District One Factory Etc. The controversy of whether what was seen constructed was a dam or dugout especially in the Upper East Region of Ghana played vital role against NPP in the December 7, elections.
However, her recent pulling out gun according to reports during the registration exercise also give Ghanaians some perception about the Awutu Senya East MP/ Minister of Special Development Initiatives. All these issue, affected the party fortune in the December election.
Major (Retired) Derek Oduro
Major (Retired) Derek Oduro is well known by Ghanaians as someone who is very ‘disrespectful’ and talks anyhow’ especially with his way of handling issues of national interest.
He was captured in Parliament to have responded by saying: “bring it, bring the idea, you [media] are okro mouth, okro mouth, okro mouth in the sense that whatever comes into your mouth you will throw it out, so let it come out of your mouth that yes, Parliament, make laws, that university professors must be given security.”
His above response came after he was asked whether University Professors should be given security.
He was also captured throwing ‘abusive words’ on an officer who was captured in a video demonstrating his displeasure against the government’s intention to construct a new 450-seater chamber for parliament.
This was his response too, “What is in his head, let us take him to a psychiatric hospital for examination” He made the pronouncement during an interview on Kumasi-based Otec FM. So, some of these misconduct will effect his chances this time.
Carlos Ahenkorah
Carlos Ahenkorah the former Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry was asked to resign when it was confirmed that he visited a gathering despite COVID-19 positive status. Ghanaian were not unhappy with his posture then, even as a top government official who should know better.
His recent ballot snatching activity in front law, is the beginning of his 8th parliament history in the 4th Republic.
