The air buzzed with anticipation as two seasoned journalists, Albert Sore and Ebo Bruce Quansah, stood as the final contenders. When the ballots were counted, it was Albert Sore who emerged victorious, securing an impressive 29 out of 44 votes. His opponent, the veteran Ebo Bruce Quansah, gracefully accepted the results with 15 votes, setting the stage for a new era of leadership.
The election, conducted peacefully under the watchful eyes of the GJA Electoral Committee, was praised for its transparency and the professionalism displayed by all members. As the results were announced, a wave of applause filled the enviroment, and a beaming Albert Sore stepped forward to address his colleagues.
“This victory is not just mine, it belongs to every journalist in the Upper East Region,” he declared, his voice brimming with gratitude and determination. “I pledge to work tirelessly to unite us, to fight for our welfare, and to confront the challenges that stand in the way of our profession.”
His vision for the region’s journalism was clear: capacity-building programs, targeted training, and initiatives to raise professional standards. “We must prioritize learning, our well-being, and excellence in our work,” he urged. “Only then can we amplify our voices and serve our communities effectively.”
Ebo Bruce Quansah, ever the statesman, extended his support to the new chairman, urging his fellow journalists to stand united. “The strength of our media fraternity lies in our solidarity,” he said. “Let us move forward together.”
Beyond the newsrooms, stakeholders, media executives, civil society leaders, and communication experts, flooded social media with congratulatory messages, hopeful that Sore’s leadership would usher in a new wave of progress for journalism in the Upper East Region of Ghana.
Engaging the media after the EC declaration, the former Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) William Jalulah, looked on at the newly elected executives.
Despite the challenges that had arisen during his tenure, Mr. Jalulah couldn’t hide his happiness for the smooth election process.
As he reflected on his three-year stint as Regional GJA Chairman, Mr. Jalulah felt a sense of pride and satisfaction with the progress he had made. He wished the new executives well, hoping that they would build on the foundation he had laid and take the association to even greater heights.
Mr. Jalulah’s joy was palpable as he handed over the reins, confident that the association was in good hands. He looked forward to seeing the new executives thrive and make a positive impact on the journalism profession in the region. With a warm smile, he congratulated the winners and encouraged them to work tirelessly for the benefit of the association and its members.
