Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has made a passionate plea to voters in Asunafo South to break away from the traditional “skirt-and-blouse” voting pattern.
This pattern sees voters supporting the NPP in presidential elections but opting for a different party in parliamentary elections.
During his visit to Sankore, Bawumia emphasized that the NPP has consistently won presidential elections in the constituency but has struggled to secure the parliamentary seat, currently held by Eric Opoku of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He urged voters to change this pattern in the 2024 elections, voting for both him and the NPP parliamentary candidate, Francis Aduse Opoku.
Bawumia’s message was clear: “Vote for me because I will improve your lives. I want the people of Sankore to start changing that pattern and vote for Adusei so that I can add him to my next government. Don’t disappoint us this year; we are both number one.” This call to action is part of his campaign efforts in the Ahafo region, where he plans to visit three key constituencies: Asunafo South, Asunafo North, and Asutifi South.
His itinerary includes meetings with local chiefs, business leaders, and party supporters to promote his vision and rally support for the upcoming elections. The response from residents has been positive, with some from Norbekoi in Asunafo South endorsing the NPP and pledging their continued support.
