The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has made a request to the Ghana Bar Association to consider ‘pro bono’ for the people of the Upper East Region.
Mr. Yakubu made the interesting request on behalf of the region during the 2021 Bar Conference organized in Bolgatanga on Monday, September 13, at the Fountain Gate Chapel International.
Meanwhile, the Minister’s pro bono request to the GBA was as a result of the difficulty majority of citizens in the region go through before procuring legal services at market rates.
He believes such intervention by Ghana Bar Association will be a huge relief to his people.
“As a stop-gap measure, the Ghana Bar Association could consider pro bono services for the people of the region. There are many citizens who are poor and unable to procure legal services at market rates. Owing to this, they are unable to assert their rights and privileges in many areas of litigation. The Legal Aid Commission does always come to the rescue. However, the number of lawyers at the Commission leaves much to be desired”.
