He warmly welcomed former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, who was leading a delegation of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF). Their aim was to promote democracy, peace, and security in the sub-region.

During their discussion, the focus was on the upcoming elections in Ghana and the importance of maintaining peace throughout the process. Dr. Bawumia emphasized Ghana’s reputation as one of the most peaceful countries in the region and reiterated his commitment to preserving the nation’s peace and harmony.

The delegation, which included H.E. Kadre Desire Quadraago, former President of the ECOWAS Commission, highlighted the significance of regional cooperation in promoting peaceful elections. They were on a pre-election mission to Ghana, emphasizing the importance of ensuring a peaceful election process.

Ghana’s history of peaceful elections was attributed to factors such as respect for the rule of law, dynamic constitutional provisions, and effective electoral management. The country’s Electoral Commission had implemented measures like improving the voter register and increasing transparency to prevent electoral violence.

By meeting with President Jonathan, Dr. Bawumia demonstrated Ghana’s dedication to maintaining peace and stability during the electoral process, showcasing the country’s commitment to democratic growth and development.
