Dr. Omane Boamah has sounded a warning to the National Identification Authority (NIA) to stop its sudden and suspicious voter registration exercise in Pusiga, aimed at issuing Ghanacards to residents in the area. Apexnewsgh reports

This move, described as a pilot program, has raised eyebrows due to its timing and apparent aim to facilitate illegal voter registration.

The NIA, led by Ken Attafuah, has announced that all Ghanaians living in Pusiga who have not registered are encouraged to do so.

This comes just days after the arrest of an Electoral Commission (EC) officer, Muhazu Alhassan, who was caught using a single Ghanacard to register multiple people.

Dr. Boamah and the NDC have accused the NIA of attempting to aid illegal voters in the final days of the voter registration exercise, masquerading as a collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The party has instructed its agents to take necessary action to prevent any illegal registration.

The NDC has previously raised concerns about the abuse of the Ghana Card, highlighting instances of EC officials and NPP elements misusing the cards to register minors and multiple people. The party has questioned the EC’s failure to integrate its database with the NIA’s, despite investing $54 million in biometric registration capabilities in 2020.

Dr. Boamah’s warning to the NIA is a call to halt its suspicious activities and ensure that only legal registration of voters occurs.

The NDC in the area remains vigilant and committed to preventing any manipulation of the electoral process.
