Stephen Yakubu, the Upper East Regional Minister has said, that the security situation in the region wasn’t very good before he came, as he expressed excitement that within his short period in office, Bolga is a cool place, Bolga is a place everyone wants to come. Apexnewsgh.com report
Mr. Yakubu who confessed on Saturday, June 19, 2021, during a One on One exclusive interview with Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com at his residence, also believes that what contributed to the past insecurity in the region was as a result of the busy nature attached to his predecessor Tangoba Abayage during the election year.
According to him, his predecessor was busy organizing the elections whiles people took the advantage to snatched away motorbikes and engaged in a lot of armed robbery in the system.
However, he is confident that with lots of Strategies put in place coupled with the presence of the current Regional Police Commander Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Dr. Sayibu Pabi Gariba in the region, issues such as motorbike snatching and armed robbery have reduced.
“ Before I even come to this region, it was like the security situation was not very good. After the elections, the previous minister was very busy organizing the election and all that, therefore people probably took the advantage of that and also doing their own thing. People motorbikes were snatched away, a lot of armed robbery in the system and all that. I can tell you and you can also testify that all those things have really come down because, we have a new regional Police Commander who is up to the job and we have put a lot of strategies in place and so far, Bolga is a cool place, Bolga is a place everyone wants to come”. He explained
Meanwhile, responding to the threats by bandits from Burkina Faso to attack Bolga and Tamale, the Minister asked citizens not to panic because the securities are on top of their job. He further pleaded with citizens to provide the security with good information that will assist them to do their job accordingly.
So far, the current security issue is the problem of people moving from Burkina Faso coming to attack Ghana through this our region and most of the stations have assured Ghanaians and Upper Easterners that we are actually in control of the region. As you work here, you know that the region is very safe because we have a lot of securities. We have the military men, we have the policemen and we are securing our borders by making sure that no one comes in, no one goes out illegally.
We are also appealing to citizens which have been doing so for the past weeks for them to actually continue to help us with information so that we can apprehend anyone at all who is suspicious in the region. He appealed
