Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hanna Tetteh, has emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum in Parliament to foster respectful debates and uphold the dignity of the institution. Apexnewsgh reports
Speaking on 3FM, Tetteh stressed that lawmakers must realize the significance of decency in their behavior to effectively serve their constituents.
Her comments come after the recent chaos that erupted during the meeting of the ministerial nominees, leading to the suspension of four lawmakers: Frank Annor Dompreh, Rockson Dafeamekpor, Hassan Tampuli, and Jerry Ahmed Shaib. The suspension was later lifted by Speaker Alban Bagbin after the affected MPs showed remorse.
Tetteh, who is currently the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), believes that maintaining decorum is crucial for MPs to serve their constituents effectively. “Our MPs need to understand that it is important to maintain decorum to foster respectful debate, uphold the dignity of the institution, and effectively serve the interest of their constituents,” she said.
